While away in Florida earlier this month, I got out of the routine of watching the morning and evening shows that I typically watch. And since returning home, I’ve not gotten back into that habit.

Our son, Kenny, likes T-shirts. I don’t know how many he has. And he may not even know! But he has lots and lots of T-shirts.
He especially likes T-shirts with a message. And he likes to give them to others. Several years ago, Kenny gave Norma Jean and me matching T-shirts with a two-word message: “Do good.” Whenever we wear them, we receive positive comments. There is an ancient proverb that says “Silence is golden.” Sometimes it’s better to listen. To refrain from responding. To ignore insults. To turn a deaf ear to absurd accusations.
On the most famous Friday in history, we witness an example of such silence. When Jesus was accosted and accused by His enemies, He was noticeably silent. The prophet Isaiah foretold this. Continue reading

“Communication is to love what blood is to the body. When communication stops, love begins to die,’ wrote Dr. Paul Faulkner in his book “What Every Family Needs.”
Several years ago Redbook magazine surveyed 830 marriage counselors to determine the main problems married couples faced. Not surprisingly, communication was number one. My experience supports their conclusion. Often couples feel they have a problem with money, intimacy, or in-laws, but really it’s communication. Jay E. Adams was right when he wrote, “A sound husband and wife relationship is impossible apart from good communication. A healthy relationship between parents and children depends on such communication. It reminds me of a man who asked his wife, “What would you most like for your birthday?”
She said, “I’d love to be ten again.”

Last night in our Bible class at Hickman Mills we were studying the miracles of Jesus. There is a very brief, but powerful encounter Jesus had with a leper. Here’s Matthew’s account.
“When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” (Matt 8:1-3)

Last week at the Florida College Lectures, I briefly encountered David Tant as we were entering Hutchinson Auditorium. He smiled and said, “I see you’ve still found time to write your blog while you’re down here.”
