Two Evangelists Charged. Tried. Convicted.

Today, we conclude our top 10 posts of the year. This one is unique for 2 reasons. It is our first post to receive well over 100,000 reader views. Also due to some additional information, it required a follow-up clarification which was the #2 post of the year. You can click the link at the bottom of the post to read the follow-up, which I hope you do. Regardless, of the specific facts concerning the men involved, the point of both posts remains valid. Yesterday a Bristol Magistrates’ Court in Great Britain convicted two men, Michael Overd and Michael Stockwell on “public order offences.”

What did they do that resulted in their arrest and conviction?

Was it public indecency? Disturbing the peace? Inciting a riot? Sexual harassment? Discharging a firearm? Disorderly conduct?

No. It was none of the above. I had to fact check this story, because it almost sounded like something from Babylon Bee.

Word of the Week: Joy

Coming in at #4 in 2017 in terms of “hits” was a 2013 post on the word “Joy.”  We’re not sure why this post resurfaced.  But we’re glad our readers enjoyed it.

“There is no virtue in the Christian life which is not made radiant with joy,” wrote William Barclay. “There is no circumstance and no occasion which is not illuminated with joy.  A joyless life is not a Christian life, for joy is the one constant in the recipe of Christian living.”

Eliminate any Hint of Sexual Impropriety

As we continue our holiday break and reblog the top 10 posts of 2017 based on reader views, this one ranked #5. In view of recent revelations regarding sexual misconduct this is worth reading again.

In her book, Settle For More, Megyn Kelly relates a time early in her broadcasting career about a rumor regarding her relationship with Britt Hume, her boss and  managing editor of the DC bureau of Fox News.

Radar Online started the story. Kelly was called a “Hume wrecker.” And she was furious. Megyn wrote that there was no romantic relationship between the two of them–“not a single inappropriate or even borderline moment, ever.”

What We Stand For: Sending a Clear Message

In this midst of political, social and religious polarization, it’s important for the world to know where Christians stand. This post shared was several hundred times on facebook and received the 6th most “hits” during 2017.

Even if you’re not a football fan, you’ve probably heard that every team in the NFL protested in some form prior to Sunday’s games during The National Anthem.

Teams reacted in various ways. Some took a knee during the playing of The Star-Spangled Banner. Others locked arms in a show of solidarity, including some team owners who joined them. Other teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, and Seattle Seahawks stayed in the locker room while the Anthem was performed.

The world won’t end (Saturday), “but the world as we know it is ending,” David Meade, told the Washington Post in a recent interview.

Meade is a self-described “specialist in research and investigations.” Apparently, his doomsday claim has some people nervously eyeing tomorrow, September 23, 2017, as the beginning of catastrophic events that will begin to befall Earth. His claims have been reported in Newsweek, Fox News, the Huffington Post and several other media outlets.

Adam Lyons says he’s “the luckiest man alive.” Why? Because the Londoner living in Austin, Texas,  shares his life with two girlfriends, Brooke Shedd and Jane Shalakhova who are bi-sexual.

Lyons, the father of Shedd’s, 2 year old , Dante, is now expecting a baby boy with Shalakhova. The May 18th New York Post article extols their relationship called a “throuple.” The three share parenting duties as well as the same bed. They’re quoted as saying “For us, three definitely works better than two.”
