IT’S FRIDAY. BUT SUNDAY’S COMING! Just Another Day?

Cross+Tomb　Another day. Another Friday. Another early morning when the rooster crowed. Folks were awakened. There is work to be done. Business to take care of. People to see. Preparations to be made for Sabbath worship.

A neighbor mentioned some commotion going on in the night. Some criminals captured. A late night and early morning meeting of the Sanhedrin. Odd. But there a day’s business ahead. There is a crowd in town and a buzz about a crucifixion. Guess they found that criminal guilty. But there’s things to do and no time to worry about that.

As school is soon coming to a close, no doubt teachers have heard some incredible excuses for their students being absent or not doing their assigned homework.

Here are some actual notes written by parents, with the original spelling, asking their children to be excused.

“Please excuse Jason from being absent on June 28,29, 30, 31, 32 and also 33.”

IT’S FRIDAY. BUT SUNDAY’S COMING! The Cross: Paradox. Power. Purpose

Cross. WTC

One year ago today the 911 Memorial and Museum was dedicated. But it opened amid various controversies. One objection was raised by an atheist group over the inclusion of a cross.

The 17-foot steel-beam cross was discovered in the rubble of the World Trade Center towers two days after the 2001 terrorist attacks on America. In days and weeks to come it provided a tangible symbol of comfort and faith to many of those horrified by the events of September 11. Continue reading →

Life Lessons Learned from Yogi-isms

Yogi Berra

Former Yankee great and baseball Hall of Famer, Yogi Berra, turned 90 on Tuesday. Berra was known, not only for his  All Star career, but his “Yogi-isms,” funny quips about life and baseball.

His family, friends, and fans gathered to celebrate his remarkable life and career, and to recall some of his famous “Yogi-isms”

Several years ago, Sports Broadcaster, Brent Musburger, told a story that one Fall day Yogi was burning leaves in his yard. Suddenly the wind picked up, and it was getting harder to get the fire line under control. The flames got a bit more aggressive and headed toward a storage shed on the property. So he ran in to call the fire department for help.

Conqueror

Octavain, the nephew of Julius Caesar, was one of the greatest conquerors of all time. He was granted the title Augustus, meaning exalted, by the Roman senate

During his rule, the Roman empire expanded into Hungary, Croatia and Egypt as well as securing Spain and Gaul. He added more land than Julius Caesar and was worshiped as a god in Rome.

Into this conquering culture, Christ came into the world and Christianity was born. The Jewish people were well aware of the Rome’s power, since they were subjugated under their dominion.
