How To Have World Peace

Today is The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) which is observed around the world each year on September 21st. It was established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution.

According to the United Nations web site, “Peace Day should be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples… Since its inception, Peace Day has marked our personal and planetary progress toward peace.” Continue reading

Great Verses of the Bible:Psalm 78:3-4

It was Sunday morning and little Jason was piddling around and not ready to leave for church. As time was drawing close his father admonished, “Son “You better get ready, the bus will be here in a few minutes to pick you up to take you to Sunday school.”

“Did you go to Sunday School when you were a boy?” asked Jason.

The father replied, “Yes I did.” Continue reading

Freedom In Christ

My PC Bible Study Program by BibleSoft opens each day with a short devotional thought by Charles Spurgeon. This morning’s thought is based on Galatians 5:1. “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free.”

Spurgeon observed, “This ‘liberty’ makes us free to heaven’s charter—the Bible.”

In the writing style of his day, he offers some insights worth sharing with our readers. “You are a welcome guest at the table of the promises. Scripture is a never-failing treasury filled with boundless stores of grace. It is the bank of heaven; you may draw from it as much as you please…Come in faith and you are welcome to all covenant blessings.” Continue reading

Word of the Week: Optimism

In his book, The Winner’s Edge. Denis Waitley tells about the 1972 Australian swimmer, Shane Gould who early in her career came to the United States for a meet.

When asked by a reporter how she thought she would do, the 14-year-old replied. “I have a feeling there will be a world record today.” She went on to set two world records in the one-hundred and two-hundred meter freestyle events. Continue reading

Lies The Devil Tells Us

Today Norma Jean and I are on the way to Nashville where I’m speaking this weekend at the Kemper Heights Church as a part of their Family Weekend. Their theme is “Lies the Devil Tells Us.”

As I have been preparing these lessons over the past several weeks, I have been again reminded of how cunning, crafty and clever the devil is. There’s reason why he appeared to Eve in the Garden of Eden as a snake. Continue reading

Are You Giving God the Leftovers?

On March 16, 1977, President Jimmy Carter visited the home of a Massachusetts family, Kay Thompson and her husband and their eight children. Kay recalls being a “nervous wreck” and trying to ignore the Secret Service men preparing for the President’s arrival.

This visit was a part of Carter’s initiative to connect with American citizens. A home would be picked at random and Carter would come and eat and spend the night. That probably wouldn’t happen today. But what if it did? Continue reading

Great Verses of the Bible: Isaiah 55:6

Several years ago American Family Publishers was sending out sweepstakes notices trying to sell magazines. Their mailing list included the Bushnell Assembly of God in Bushnell, Florida. The computer twisted the name and sent them a notice addressed to “God of Bushnell.” Continue reading

What Do You See?

Recently I saw a quote posted on facebook my by friend Mike Richardson from Dr. Wayne Dyer. It’s been on my mind ever since I wrote it down. It was simple. Succinct. But very profound.

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Continue reading

Word of the Week: Empathy

Charley. Frances. Ivan. And Jeanne. These are names we remember well. No, they’re not our grandchildren’s names. Or the names of family members. They were the 4 hurricanes that crisscrossed Florida in 2004 in what is known as “the year of the hurricane.” Continue reading
