Freedom In Christ

 

My PC Bible Study Program by BibleSoft opens each day with a short devotional thought by Charles Spurgeon. This morning’s thought is based on Galatians 5:1. “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free.”

Spurgeon observed, “This ‘liberty’ makes us free to heaven’s charter—the Bible.”

In the writing style of his day, he offers some insights worth sharing with our readers. “You are a welcome guest at the table of the promises. Scripture is a never-failing treasury filled with boundless stores of grace. It is the bank of heaven; you may draw from it as much as you please…Come in faith and you are welcome to all covenant blessings.” Continue reading

Are You Enjoying The Four Freedoms?

It was on this day, January 6, 1941, that President Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed Congress “in an effort to move the nation away from a foreign policy of neutrality. The president had watched with increasing anxiety as European nations struggled and fell to Hitler’s fascist regime and was intent on rallying public support for the United States to take a stronger interventionist role.”

At the close of his address Roosevelt said that he looked forward to a world founded upon 4 essential human freedoms–freedom of speech, freedom from want, freedom of worship, and freedom from fear. Continue reading

IT’S FRIDAY. BUT SUNDAY’S COMING! An Uncommon Freedom

“Give me liberty or give me death!”

Patrick Henry is well known for these fiery words. He was elected to the House of Burgesses in 1774 and a delegate to the First Continental Congress.   He became a champion of freedom for the frontier people. On March 20, 1775, Patrick Henry appeared before the Virginia Provincial Convention, which was deeply divided between those who supported England and those who desired freedom.  It was then he closed his speech with this passionate and stirring challenge: “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”  Continue reading

Are You Truly Free?

Have you heard about Lindsey Stone?  She’s the Massachusetts woman who posted the above picture of herself on facebook.  As you can see she is making a crude gesture and yelling in front of a sign in Arlington National Cemetery that says, “Silence and Respect.”  Obviously, she is doing neither. The post went viral causing a national controversy.  As a result, Lindsey was fired from her job. Continue reading

Real Freedom

                   Freedom.  It’s word that swells with emotion within our hearts.  Freedom is synonymous  with America.  The Flag.  July 4th. Fireworks.
