Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

“Often we allow ourselves to get all worked up about things that upon closer examination aren’t really that big a deal,” wrote Dr. Richard Carlson in his classic little book entitled Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff.

Carlson illustrates how we may “focus on little problems and concerns and blow them way out of proportion. A stranger, for example, might cut in front of us in traffic. Rather than let it go, and go on with our day, we convince ourselves that we are justified in our anger.”

There are so many little things that can divert our attention from the bigger, more important issues of life. Continue reading

What Do You See?

Recently I saw a quote posted on facebook my by friend Mike Richardson from Dr. Wayne Dyer. It’s been on my mind ever since I wrote it down. It was simple. Succinct. But very profound.

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Continue reading

Is Today An Unlucky Day?

friday-13
Welcome to the first of two Friday the 13ths in 2017. The other one is October 13.

Friday the 13th is considered by some to be the unluckiest day of the year. Psychologists have even come up with a word for fear of Friday the 13th– paraskavedekatriaphobia.  Movies and  books have capitalized on this fear.

Some “historians” claim Friday was the day Eve ate the forbidden fruit. The day the flood began. And the day the builders began the tower of Babel. Of course, there is absolutely no Biblical basis for those assertions.

“I entered the shop in astonishment and, pointing to those words, asked the Chinese tattoo artist, “Does anyone really have that terrible phrase, Born to Lose, tattooed on his body?” Continue reading

Acceptance Does Not Imply Approval

 Diversity.People

There is a fallacy in the minds of many people that if you accept something or someone, you are tacitly demonstrating your approval.

When the conversation comes to a person’s practice, lifestyle or opinions, the contrarian is often heard to pronounce: “That’s wrong. I just cannot accept that.”

What we need to realize is that there is a vast difference between accepting someone and approving of their choices, behavior or beliefs. Let me illustrate from God’s Word. Continue reading
