Did Jesus Exist Before His Birth?

At this time of the year when people are talking more about Jesus than the previous 11 months combined, here are some interesting statistics.

♦Only 41% of American adults, in general, believe Jesus existed before His birth.

The Ministry of Silence

Ralph and Darlene Burson was an elderly couple who lived next door to the Jacksons–Bill, Sherry, and four-year-old Jason.

A few days after Darlene died, little Jason wanted to go next door to see his friend Mr. Ralph, who was sitting on the back porch. His mother agreed.

When Jason walked up Ralph began to gently shed some tears. Upon seeing this Jason climbed up into his lap.

When he returned home Sherry asked, “Jason, what did you say to Mr. Burson?” Continue reading

Word of the Week: Goodwill

“Peace on earth, goodwill toward men,” is a common refrain we hear repeated during this time of year.

Of course, it’s part of the chorus of praise from the angelic heavenly host when they appeared to the shepherds in the field at Jesus’ birth (Lk. 2:1-14).

Peace and goodwill go together like peanut butter and jelly. Like salt and pepper. Like shoes and socks. Continue reading

Sunday Seed Thoughts: Ruminations From the Space Coast

Today finds Norma Jean and me on Florida’s Space Coast, Cape Canaveral, where I will be preaching for the North Courtenay Church in Merritt Island.

Outer space has always held a special kind of fascination for the human mind. As a kid, I recall the scientific-fiction shows of the 1950s. Commando Cody. Space Patrol. Buck Rogers. Flash Gordon. What was then fantasy, soon became “the new frontier” as promoted by President John F. Kennedy in the 1960s. Space exploration has become reality in our lifetime. Continue reading

Today we’re driving over to the Space Coast where I will be preaching for the North Courtenay Ave Church in Merritt Island tomorrow.  We’re looking to seeing some old friends, meeting many of these brethren for the first time, and hopefully meeting some of our readers. Continue reading

Playing Footloose with the Gospel

Our local newspaper, the Citrus County Chronicle bills itself as “Florida’s Best Community Newspaper Serving Florida’s Best Community.” Besides featuring local news, it carries columns not always found in big-city newspapers.

In addition to “Letters to the Editor,” the Chronicle has a “Sound Off” column where readers can call a hotline number and anonymously air their personal concerns, criticisms, and complaints. Or offer their commendation for something they like.

The other day a reader who said they had been residents for 8 years shared they visited 24 churches during their first 3 years, never finding a church to their liking. Continue reading

A Passage To Ponder: Revelation 4

A Bible class teacher was explaining to the class that we really don’t know what Jesus looked like.

To illustrate, she showed a painting of Jesus, illustrating it was the painter’s rendition. “It’s not really Jesus. It’s just the artist’s conception of Him.”

One little fellow, looking long and hard at the painting finally said, “Well, it sure looks like him.” Continue reading

What’s the Root Cause?

Last Thursday in an extraordinary exchange between White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki and Fox News reporter Peter Doocy, Paski implied COVID-19 was partly responsible for the recent rise in looting incidents across the country.

“So when a huge group of criminals organizes themselves and they want to go loot a store — a CVS, a Nordstrom, a Home Depot until the shelves are clean — do you think that’s because of the pandemic?” Doocy pressed. Continue reading
