(Here’s the #1 post of 2012 based on both hits and views.  Who knew a chicken company could cause such a flap?!)

I like Chick-fil-A.  I like their chicken sandwich. I like their chicken noodle soup.  I like their salads.  I like their shakes.  I like their waffle fries.  And I really like their sausage biscuit.  But not everyone likes Chick-fil-A as much as I do. Critics are crying, “Fowl!”

Yesterday, I shared with my marriage class the 10 emotional needs from Dr. Willard Harley’s book HIS NEEDS HER NEEDS.  He says five are typically male needs and the other five are female needs. He writes that meeting these needs will “affair proof your marriage.” He also affirms that when you discover your own needs and identify your mate’s needs that it will “deepen your love and desire for each other.”

So, last night I come home and find a face book notification from an old friend and former college room-mate, David Lewis. The post was from Jani Ortlund’s blog entitled “The Six Second Kiss.”  Here’s what she wrote.

(This post was in the top 5 in 2012, and rose to the #1  most read in 2016)

S. M. Lockridge (1913-2000)  was a prominent African-American preacher known for his dynamic, passionate, and fervent sermons.  His most famous sermon  was “He’s my King.”  Several years ago author and speaker Tony Campolo was so impressed by Lockridge’s lesson on “It’s Friday. But Sunday’s Coming!” that he began to deliver the lesson himself and even wrote a book with that title.

(We are continuing to reblog the top posts of 2012 during the holiday break.  This one ranked #4.  As someone who is growing weary of the constant political bickering, the challenge issued here is a good reminder.  Share this post with your friends)

Tuesday night I was excited to watch the election returns.  I tuned-in early to hear the optimistic predictions.  I was feeling confident that real change was coming. Perhaps I’ve been in denial.  Drinking the “kool aid” that has been in abundant supply. In my stricken state of mind I even filled out a prediction map calling for a big upset victory!  Even when things were not looking so good, I was convinced the Karl Rove was right! All would end well.

“I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women and heterosexual men and women marrying are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties,” said Vice President, Joe Biden, on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” He  went on to say the situation is “evolving” and that the “social culture” is changing.

On Monday, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, when asked if he thinks gay couples should be able to legally marry, said, “Yes, I do.”

And our President has been on record for some time saying that his views of same-sex marriage are “evolving.”

You Need To Get A Bible In Your Hands

Bible.HoldingLynn Anderson tells about his grandson, Conner, who was in the four-year old Bible class at church.  The teacher said, “Today we are going to talk about Jesus.”  Where upon Conner stood up and, thrust his hand onto his hips, and authoritatively confronted the teacher, “Well, if you’re gonna talk about Jesus you need to get a Bible in your hands.” Continue reading

Lessons from a Day of Infamy

Pearl-HarborTomorrow it will be 71 years since early Sunday morning,  Japan attacked our naval and air base at Pearl Harbor. It was a surprise and unprovoked attack that propelled the USA into World War II.  President Franklin D. Roosevelt called it “a date that will live in infamy.” On this anniversary of Pearl Harbor, several thoughts with spiritual applications come to mind. Continue reading
