A Barna Poll once asked, “If you could ask God one question and you knew He would give you an answer, what would you ask?”
The most common response was, “Why is there pain and suffering in the world?”
In the aftermath of what is being called “The Mandalay Massacre” similar questions are being raised. One of our regular readers, Stephen, asked if I would write about the Las Vegas shooting as it relates to the Book of Job. “One specific question I have (with a Book of Job context) — is it reasonable for Christians to expect God to protect us from the prowl of Satan?” Continue reading →

Today is the 100th anniversary of the United States entry into World War I. It is an event that history says “changed America, and the world forever.”
Although the war erupted in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson pursued a policy of neutrality which the vast majority of Americans favored. However, Germany’s imperialistic vision would not leave America alone. Our ships were attacked as we aided Great Britain and our other Allies. Continue reading →

What are some things that Christians ought to think about every day?
Last night Shawn Jefferies concluded our Fall Focus Series at Hickman Mills where I worship in Kansas City. Our theme has been BECOMING HOLY LIKE JESUS. He ended the series by sharing three things we ought to think about every day. He said, “The first one will surprise you.” It did! Continue reading →

Last night in an impassioned Talking Points memo, Fox News Commentator, Bill O’Reilly, said it is time to declare war on ISIS and other Muslim terrorist groups.
Following the public beheading of two American journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff, O’Reilly called for Congress to formally declare war on Islamic terrorists and for the President to sign it
There can be no doubt that ISIS and those of their ilk are at war with us. In a recent video one of their soldiers looked into the camera and sneered “I say to America that the Islamic Caliphate has been established. And we will not stop… we will raise the flag of Allah in the White House.” Continue reading →

I don’t like to brag about my good works, or my unselfish acts of service to my country. But I must share this.
Yesterday I received a call from the United States Treasury Department. The nice man with an Indian accent said I qualified to receive $8400 from the government. Wow! My lucky day, I thought. Continue reading →

There is a war that is raging! We can deny it. Dismiss it. Or Ignore it. But the war is real. The battles are intense. And the conflicts impact us all.
The war I’m writing about today is not in Afghanistan. Syria. Or Kenya . I’m not discussing current culture wars in America. Nor am I referring to the conflicts between political parties, or the battles between the White House and Congress.
The war that concerns me is more serious than all of those combined. Continue reading →

Tomorrow it will be 71 years ago that early on Sunday morning Japan attacked our naval and air base at Pearl Harbor. It was a surprise and unprovoked attack that propelled the USA into World War II. President Franklin D. Roosevelt called it “a date that will live in infamy.” On this anniversary of Pearl Harbor there are several thoughts with spiritual applications that come to mind. Continue reading →
