Luke 24:1-11

“Christianity is in its very essence a resurrection religion,” wrote John R. W. Stott. “The concept of resurrection lies at its heart. If you remove it, Christianity is destroyed.”

In his commentary on Luke, Colly Caldwell offers this observation regarding Jesus’ resurrection. “This singular event establishing His divinity forms the unique aspect of Christianity which rises about all other world religions.” The remains of all other religious founders remain buried. Word of the Week: Determination

With the beginning of baseball season, I’m reminded of a story about George Brett who enjoyed an All-Star 20 years career with the Kansas City Royals during the 1970s and 80s.

Brett was once asked by a reporter what he wanted to do in his last at-bat when he retired. No doubt, many ballplayers would like to end their career with a 400 foot home run like Ted Williams did at Fenway Park. However, that’s not what Brett said. Continue reading →

“It’s Bigger Than Basketball”

On Monday night the University of Kansas Jayhawks defeated the University of North Carolina Tarheels in New Orleans to win the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship.

Their fourth Champion in school history was particularly sweet since they made history by coming back from a 16 point deficit, making it the largest comeback in the history of the tournament.

While this didn’t make the mainstream news or find its way onto the color analysis Monday night, several players, including backcourt duo, Joe Yesufu, and Jalen Coleman-Lands, in an interview with CBN Sports shared their faith and how it grounded them in their college careers. Continue reading →

Should We Pray for Putin’s Demise?

Recently Nancy Kennedy the religion writer for our Citrus County Chronicle related receiving a letter from a reader asking if it was right to pray for the death of one’s enemy.

The reader said her preacher had prayed for Vladimir Putin’s demise, referring to him as “the evil one.”

Yesterday President Biden called Putin a “war criminal.” In view of the destruction of Ukraine, the attacks on hospitals, schools, and the death of civilian women and children, I can’t disagree with that. Continue reading →

Word of the Week: Discipline

Tonight the #1 seeded Kansas Jayhawks play the #8 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.

It’s the culmination and climax of March Madness, one of the most exciting times of the year for all basketball fans.
