In two days Donald J. Trump will take the oath of office as the 45th President of the United States. Unless you’re on a total news blackout, you know that this inauguration is being met with protests, demonstrations, and out right defiance in many quarters.

Mr. Trump is entering the Presidency with the lowest approval rating of any President in modern history. At least, that’s what the polls state . To say that his election has been unprecedented and controversial is an understatement. Continue reading →

Today is a national holiday in the United States honoring slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr.  Congressman John Conyers and Representative Shirley Chisholm are responsible for introducing the bill that President Ronald Reagan signed into law in 1983. Cleansing the Temple


In the last week of Jesus’ life, he again finds the temple defiled by the religious leaders. They had turned the court where Gentiles could come and learn about God into a mercenary business, instead of a missionary business.

Is Today An Unlucky Day?

Welcome to the first of two Friday the 13ths in 2017. The other one is October 13.

Friday the 13th is considered by some to be the unluckiest day of the year. Psychologists have even come up with a word for fear of Friday the 13th– paraskavedekatriaphobia.  Movies and  books have capitalized on this fear.

Some “historians” claim Friday was the day Eve ate the forbidden fruit. The day the flood began. And the day the builders began the tower of Babel. Of course, there is absolutely no Biblical basis for those assertions.

Are You Watching Out For The Kids?

In a recent trip to Lafayette, Louisiana, during the holidays, Norma Jean and I enjoyed walking to a park close to Kenny and April’s house. Little Miles likes to be outdoors. Loves the park. And likes to go to a nearby “free library.”

The “library” is a little free standing house a block from the park. A lovely older couple built it and placed in their side yard next to the street. There are always some children’s books in it. And even a bench to sit down and read. So when you’re at the park Miles always says, “Go to the library?” Continue reading →

Don’t Give Up

Word of the Week: Priorities

Clovis Chappell, a minister from the early 20th century, used to tell the story of two paddleboats. They left Memphis about the same time, traveling down the Mississippi River to New Orleans. As they traveled side by side, sailors from one vessel made a few remarks about the snail’s pace of the other.

Words were exchanged. Challenges were made. And the race began. Competition became vicious as the two boats roared down the mighty Mississippi. Continue reading →
