Wanna Get Away?

Remember the old Southwest Airlines commercials featuring someone caught in an awkward moment or making an embarrassing social blunder that ended with the slogan, “Wanna Get away?”

The Psalmist didn’t have SWA, but during difficult times he wanted to get away and opined in Psalm 55:6 “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.

Have you ever felt that way? Continue reading

Great Verses of the Bible: Psalm32:1-2

An Indiana preacher, Fred Sigle, tells an incredible story that occurred in the lower east side of NYC several years ago.

Two teenagers with a long history of crime and delinquency robbed a YMCA and as they were leaving saw a young man at the telephone switchboard. They were frightened and assumed that he must be calling the police. They seized and beat him savagely with brass knuckles and a blackjack. Thinking that he was dead, they hid him behind a radiator near the swimming pool and escaped. Continue reading

God’s World, Word and Worshiper

psalm 19.1

Yesterday was a rich journey into the Psalms at the Florida College Lectures. It was edifying. Inspiring. And challenging.

Bob Owen answered the question, “Who may abide in Your Tabernacle?” John Gentry addressed Psalm 19, a great lesson on the magnificence of God’s Word. Jeff Wilson studied the Messianic Psalm 22. Don Hooton encouraged the audience from Psalm 27, a message of faith, trust and confidence in the Lord. Prayer

I think one of the beauties of God’s Word is how it speaks to us at different times and in different ways, depending on where we are in life.  We see things through the prism of our circumstances, our emotions and our maturity.

It is obvious to me not only in my own life but through this blog as some posts touch the hearts or some more than others, depending what is happening in their lives.  Continue reading

Finding Comfort in Times of Chaos

BostonMarathonBombingThis has been a rough week for Americans.  A chaotic week.  An unnerving week.

First the terrorist bombing at the finish line of the world-famous Boston Marathon. Thankfully the two men who perpetrated these attacks have been caught.  But in the wake of this assault they have left death, destruction and devastation.  Families grieve the loss of loved ones.  People are suffering.  The aftermath will be felt for years to come. For some the rest of their lives. Hurt.  Heartache.  Anguish.  Continue reading
