This week Norma Jean and I are in Miami where I’m preaching in a meeting for the Carol City church. This congregation was served for 38 years by the well known and highly respected African-American evangelist F. O. White. A number of bro White’s relatives are still members of this congregation including his daughter, Gwen and her husband Donald Jackson who was trained by brother White and now serves as the preacher. Word of the Week: Hypocrite
“So many self-righteous hypocrites” tweeted Donald Trump..This was in response to the Republican backlash from the recently released video with his crude, coarse and disgusting descriptions of women.
Conversely the headline of Saturday Boston Herald screamed: Clinton Playing Prude the Height of Hypocrisy. The article by Adriana Cohen well documented Hillary Clinton’s language and attitude toward the women abused by her husband with her “feigned outrage over Trump’s private comments.” Cohen calls it “unspeakable hypocrisy in light of her husband’s wandering ways.” Continue reading

A Moral Lesson From Hurricane Matthew
I am writing this at 35,000 feet aboard a Southwest Jet headed to Tampa. The plane is packed. Partly because Hurricane Matthew is bearing down on the east coast of Florida and flights into Miami and Ft Lauderdale have been cancelled.
While waiting at Love Field in Dallas I read that nearly two million people are evacuating Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas as Matthew approaches. Since the storm has already devastated Haiti, hit eastern Cuba and pounded the Bahamas, this is a prudent response. Continue reading

GREAT VERSES OF THE BIBLE: 2Timothy 1:12
Did you hear about the two politicians, Don and Hillard, who were discussing religion? Don said, “I know a lot about religion…probably more than any other politician.”
Hillard smirked and challenged, “Don, I bet you can’t even repeat the Lord’s prayer.”
Bombastically, Don boasted, “I most certainly can. I’ll take that bet!” And so he began, “Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep…..” Continue reading

Word of the Week: Provoke
A young Texas cowboy was riding his horse one day when he saw a hunched-over old farm hand on a mule. Deciding to have a little fun, the cocky cowboy drew his six-shooter and told the old man to get down off his mule.
He asked the old man “Have you ever danced? ” Then he began to empty his revolver at the old man’s feet, laughing hilariously at every shot.
The old man obviously unamused, but unfazed, slowly turned back to his mule, put his hand into his pack, drew a shotgun, aimed it at the young fellow whose revolver was empty and said, “Did you ever kiss a mule?” Continue reading

Instructions for Life
I have done a lot of reading over the years from the famous author anonymous. I came across this list in my file on “life” some time ago. I’m sharing it with you because I liked it and I think you will too. And it’s Bible based.
1. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully
2. Don’t believe all that you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.
3. When you say “I Love you” mean it. Continue reading

Who Crucified Christ?
The question of Christ’s crucifixion has been debated by theologians, historians, and preachers throughout the ages. Some may think the question is irrelevant after 2000 years. “What difference does it make,” they opine.
The issue of Christ’s crucifixion, however, may have greater implications to us than we initially realized. Continue reading
