Word of the Week: Seek

An army General was walking around the base one day and saw soldier acting oddly.

The soldier picked up a piece of paper off the ground. Looked at it. Frowned. Shook his head. And said, “That’s not it.”

This same scenario was frequently repeated every day for some time. He would pick up some random scrap paper and mutter, “That’s not it.”

Finally, his commanding officer sent him to the base psychiatrist for a mental evaluation. After extensive testing, it was determined the solider was mentally imbalanced and was given a medical discharge. Continue reading →

Weekly Recap: July 5-10

Good morning!

We’re continuing to enjoy the majestic mountains, the scenic Flathead Lake, and of course, the cooler weather of Montana.

We’re in Polson, where I will preach again this Sunday. The brethren have been very welcoming and we’ve enjoyed our time with them.

Where to Turn in Times of Trouble?

Paul Faulkner once told a story about a man who was trying to share his faith in Jesus with a woman who was going through a tough time.

The woman told him that her life was falling apart. Nothing was working. Her daughter had been killed in an accident. Her husband was unfaithful to her. Now, she was about to lose her job.

“What do you do when you’re not preaching?”

“It must be nice to work only one day a week.”

What Is The Purpose Of These Times?

Today, as I write these words, we should be returning to the USA from a trip to Greece and Turkey which followed the travels of the apostles Paul and John.

Then we would drive back across the border to Ontario, Canada, where we should have been since May 14, to begin a meeting at Jordan. Then a VBS at Wellandport. And on to South River for another meeting.

Instead, we’re in Polson, Montana. Looking out at the scenic Mission Mountains and Flathead Lake.

One Sunday on their way home from worship services, little Suzie turned to her mother and said, “Mommy, the preacher’s sermon this morning confused me.”

“Oh, why is that?” the mother asked.

“Well,” replied Suzie, “He said that God is bigger than we are. Is that true?”

Liberty

Today’s seed thought is based on some observations made by Charles Spurgeon from Galatians 5:1. “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free.”

“This ‘liberty’ makes us free to heaven’s charter—the Bible.”

In the writing style of his day, he offers these wonderful insights “You are a welcome guest at the table of the promises. Scripture is a never-failing treasury filled with boundless stories of grace. It is the bank of heaven; you may draw from it as much as you please…Come in faith and you are welcome to all covenant blessings.” Continue reading →
