This question was raised by Fox’s News, Bill O’Reilly, on his O’Reilly Factor last night in his “Talking Points” special edition for Memorial day. He had three guests to answer the question– former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown, businessman Herman Cain, and political commentator James Carvell. Continue reading

The media word of the week is “Scandal.” Everywhere you turn. Internet. Cable news. Talk radio. Print media. Everyone is talking about Scandals. From the White House to the State Department to the IRS. We’re hearing about all these scandals. In his daily commentary, Syndicated Columnist Cal Thomas shared some interesting insights today. Pride That Precedes A Great Fall
He was the lead story on the national news. When Jay Leno opened his monologue Monday evening and said his name, the audience applauded their approval. Tuesday’s Today Show opened with his story. His colleagues have called him “courageous.” A Washington Post Reporter called him “brave.” Congressman Joseph Kennedy III said, “I’m so proud of him.” He received calls of congratulations and commendation from past President Clinton, and President Obama. Even his former fiancé said she was supportive and happy for him.
So who is he? And what did do that is so wonderful? Continue reading
Why ask “Why?”
With the dedication of George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Dallas last week, the 43rd President has given several interviews. Something that he has been hesitant to do since leaving office.
Fox’s Dana Perino, Bush’s former Press Secretary, asked about his reaction to the Boston bombing. “I was reminded that evil exists,” Bush bluntly said, “And that there are people in the world who are willing to kill innocent people to advance a cause.” Continue reading
What is Whiter Than Snow?
“As white as the driven snow,” wrote Shakespeare in A Winter’s Tale. In Macbeth the poet used the expression “pure as snow.” Is there any better metaphor for whiteness than snow?
We witnessed this first hand recently in Kansas City, Missouri. We’ve had snow. Lots of it! Over two feet. Following the first snow, Norma Jean and I marveled one night on how light everything looked behind our house. The snow was so white. So bright. So intense in color that it looked like day light!
But do you know what’s whiter than snow? Continue reading

Was He Really Sorry?
“I’m deeply sorry for what I did. I can say that thousands of times, and it might never be enough.” said Lance Armstrong to Oprah Winfrey.
If you didn’t watch the two-part interview that Oprah had with the famous cyclist, you’ve probably heard about it. Armstrong finally admitted to doping. To using performance enhancing drugs. To lying. Covering up. To being a bully. To cheating. To hurting his family, friends and fans.
Following the first telecast, Norma Jean turned to me and said, “Do you think he’s sorry he sinned? Or just sorry he got caught?” Continue reading

POST ELECTION THOUGHTS: It’s Not About Red States or Blue States
(We are continuing to reblog the top posts of 2012 during the holiday break. This one ranked #4. As someone who is growing weary of the constant political bickering, the challenge issued here is a good reminder. Share this post with your friends)
Tuesday night I was excited to watch the election returns. I tuned-in early to hear the optimistic predictions. I was feeling confident that real change was coming. Perhaps I’ve been in denial. Drinking the “kool aid” that has been in abundant supply. In my stricken state of mind I even filled out a prediction map calling for a big upset victory! Even when things were not looking so good, I was convinced the Karl Rove was right! All would end well. Continue reading

“I’m Not Perfect”
Have you seen former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on his media tour promoting his new book? “Total Recall: My Unbelievable True Life Story” is mainly about his success as a world-champion bodybuilder, a Hollywood box-office heavyweight, and two-term Governor of California.
One chapter, called “The Secret,” is devoted to his affair with their housekeeper that produced an out-of-wedlock son, who was five years old when he ran for govenor. Continue reading
