The Cross of Discipleship
The following are actual responses from comment cards given to the staff at Bridger Wilderness Area National Forest in Wyoming.
◆Trails need to be reconstructed. Please avoid building trails that go uphill.
◆Trails need to be wider so people can walk holding hands
◆Too many bugs and leeches and spiders and spider webs. Please spray the wilderness to rid the areas of these pests.
◆Please pave the trails.
◆Chair lifts need to be in some places so that we can get to wonderful views without having to hike to them. Continue reading

Are You Gettin’ Better?
Baseball has begun. So it must be Spring! And how about those Tampa Bay Rays beginning the season with a 3-0 sweep of the Yankees?!
One of my favorite baseball stories involves famed St. Louis Cardinal pitcher, Dizzy Dean, a member of the so-called “gas-house gang.” In 1934 Dizzy had a 30-7 record. He led the league in strike-outs. Led the league in shutouts. And won two games in the World Series, including the deciding seventh game to beat the Detroit Tigers. He was named MVP in 1934. The Nail
I recently came across a neat fable by the famous author anonymous. It seems some Christians built a new church building and invited everyone to come see it. All admired its beauty. Up on the roof, a little nail heard the people praising everything about the new building. They praised everything but him. No one even knew he was there, and he became angry and jealous. “If I am that insignificant, nobody will miss me if I quit,” he said to himself. So the nail released its hold, slid down off the roof, and fell in the mud. Continue reading

There is a fable about a cave which lived under ground, as caves have a habit of doing. It had spent its entire life in darkness. One day it heard a voice calling to it. “Come up into the light, and see the sunshine.”

Night Vision
Lynn Anderson tell the story about a shipload of travelers who landed on the northeast coast of America about 350 years ago. The first year they established a town site. The next year they elected a town government. The third year the town government planned to build a road five miles westward into the wilderness. In the fourth year the people tried to impeach their town government because they thought it was a waste of public funds to build a road five miles westward into a wilderness. Who needed to go there anyway?

Some Things I Can Know
A train is traveling through the night in a very violent rainstorm. The lightning flashes were almost blinding, the rain hitting the windows was deafening, and the strong gusts of wind rocked the train from side to side. When the lightning flashed, lighting up the darkness, the passengers could see the rising water along the tracks. This created terror in the passengers’ minds. Several passengers noted that, amid the noise, lightning, and wind, one of the passengers, a little girl, seemed to be at perfect peace. Continue reading

Jesus: You Light Up My Life
In 1977 song writer Joe Brooks wrote a song entitled “You Light Up My Life.” It was recorded by Debby Boone and became an instant success. It was the best-selling single of the 70’s. In fact, it continues to rank #7 on Billboards list of 100 top songs. Brooks wrote it as a love song, but Debby interpreted it as a song about her relationship with Jesus. Who’s Your God?
James Michener, in his book, The Source, tells the story of a man named Urbaal, a farmer who lived about 2200 B.C. He worshiped two gods. The god of death and the goddess of fertility.
