Take Off Your Mask

“To mask or not to mask,” that is the question of our time. Not just in society in general, but among Christians and church attendees.

In the past 8 months, we’ve worshiped with 14 different congregations in 9 different states. Each one has approached wearing masks in worship differently. Some churches requested everyone wear a mask. Others didn’t, and very few wore masks. In some places, it was suggested, but not required. In one church there were masks and no masks sections.

To all Christians everywhere we suggest, “Take off your masks.” Continue reading →

Word of the Week: Warfare

It was 79 years ago today, December 7, 1941, early on Sunday morning that a Japanese dive bomber bearing the red symbol of the Rising Sun of Japan on its wings suddenly appeared out of the clouds above the Hawaiian Island of Oahu.

What followed was 360 Japanese warplanes that attacked our naval and air base at Pearl Harbor. When the raid was completed our Pacific fleet was devastated. 2400 Americans were killed. 1200 were wounded. More than 200 of our aircraft were destroyed. 5 battleships, 3 destroyers, and 8 other ships were either sunk or severely damaged. Continue reading →

Sunday Seed Thoughts: No Masks

Today church buildings around the country, and I suppose around the world, will be filled with worshipers wearing masks.

If you think it looks odd, you ought to be the one preaching from the pulpit and look at an entire assembly of masked men and women.

There’s been much controversy, especially among Christians and religious conservatives, about wearing masks. The efficacy of wearing masks has been discussed, debated, denied and of course, politicized.

To all Christians, we offer this spiritual advice: “No masks.” Continue reading →

Weekly Recap: November 29-December 4

Good morning from sunny Florida,

This is our final weekend at Indian Shores before moving up to Homosassa for the remainder of December.  That will put us close to Kenny’s family and where we will enjoy being together for Christmas.

Don’t Let A Moose Lick Your Car

We’ve all seen flashing road signs warning us of lane closures, slow traffic ahead, or road construction. However, this is one I’ve never seen.

Canadian officials in Jasper, Alberta, Canada, have put up signs warning people “Do not let moose lick your car.”

A Passage To Ponder: 3John 1-8

Ray Stedman, a 20th-century evangelical minister and author, once shared a true story about a Houston man who received a letter from a popular international ministry seeking support for their broadcasting.

The ministry embraced a “health and wealth gospel” stating that since God can’t be out given, He will give back to you if you contribute to their cause. They figured if everyone who listened to their broadcast would send $76 their goal would be met. Furthermore, the letter promised that God would return their offering three times over. Giving Tuesday 2020

Today is “GivingTuesday,” an annual event created in 2012, which takes place on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States.

If you’re unfamiliar with GivingTuesday, it’s an independent, non-profit organization whose mission is simply “to build a more just and generous world.”

Word of the Week: Choices

 

The other day Norma Jean and I discovered a quaint little breakfast spot on North Redington Beach, The Sweet Sage Café. It’s a combination café, gift shop, and boutique with a beautiful outdoor garden.

After a delicious breakfast, we began browsing through the gift shop reading some of the clever plaques. Many were inspirational. Others were funny. And a few slightly risqué. However, this one caught our attention. And we knew we needed to buy it. Continue reading →

“Jesus never begged anyone to believe in Him. He knew that integrity cannot be proven; it must be discerned,” wrote Mike Murdock.

“He never wasted time with critics. He kept his attention on His goal. He stayed focused. They accused Jesus of being filled with devils! He paid no attention. He simply continued to cast out devils. Jesus never strived to ‘look good.’ He simply was good. He did not labor to appear truthful. He was truthful. He never struggled to have a good reputation. He had character.”
