Word of the Week: Invest

In his book, Forward, David Jeremiah, tells the story of See’s Candies, began by a Canadian couple, Charles and Florence See.

Charles’ mother, Mary, moved with them and brought her treasured recipes for candies. In November of 1921, they opened their first candy store in Los Angeles. In 1972 the See family sold their thriving business for $25 million to Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate. Continue reading

Sunday Seed Thoughts: Preaching in the Present Tense

“It has been well said that nobody goes to church to find out what happened to the Jebusites,” opined Warren and David Wiersbe in their fine little book, The Elements of Preaching.

The Wiersbes continue with this advice, “A sermon that lingers in the past tense is not really a sermon at all; it is either a Bible story or a lecture. We live in the present tense and we need to hear what God has to say to us today.” Continue reading

Weekly Recap: February 28-March 5

Good Morning from Beverly Hills, FL

We’re gradually getting settled in our new home and enjoying the slower pace and quiet “country life” here in Citrus county.

This month I will be preaching each Sunday morning at the West Citrus Church.  So, if you’re traveling through our area, please stop and worship with us.

In addition, we’ve added some meeting and preaching dates to our 2021 schedule.

Friday’s List To Live By #29

Today’s list comes from a book I found while unpacking. It’s a personally autographed copy of You’re Born An Original Don’t Die a Copy, by John Mason. It consists of 52 nuggets, as he calls them, one for each week of the year.

Slightly adapted and with some added scriptural references, here’s Nugget #29 for our 29th “List to Live By.”

Today I Will… Continue reading

It’s Not About The Stuff

As our regular readers know for the past 33 months, Norma Jean and I have been homeless. Sorta.

When we decided to step back from working full time with a local church and travel, engaging in an itinerant ministry, we gave up a house we called home, got rid of a lot of stuff, packed up what we wanted to keep, and put it in a storage unit in Florida. Continue reading

A Passage To Ponder: Hebrews 11:20-22

“God’s delays are not God’s denials,” affirmed the 19th-century British minister George Müller.

Müller was a man of faith who believed in Divine providence, the efficacy of prayer, and the promises of God. “Too many Christians today,” opined Tony Abram, want ‘Fast Food’ answers. We are not willing to wait on the Lord God’s timetable. It is not always what we want but His timetable is the best for us.”

There are no better Bible examples of patiently waiting and faithfully believing in God’s promises than the heroes and heroines of Hebrews 11. Continue reading

Making The Old New

“What’s new?” a friend good-naturedly asks.

“Nothing, really. Just the same old same old,” comes the hackneyed, time-worn reply.

The response is suggestive of a life that’s in a rut. Boring. Lifeless. Listless. And mundane. How sad.

Well, today is the day to make a change. Because it’s National “Old Stuff Day” Continue reading

Word of the Week: Believe

The power of belief has been well documented in physical and material pursuits in life. From sports to business, to our personal goals and dreams belief in a necessary ingredient for success.

Napoleon Hill, known for his books on self-help and positive thinking, in his classic bestseller Think and Grow Rich, wrote, “Whatever your mind can conceive, and believe, it can achieve.”

As we continue to explore the theme Reaching Forward, and discuss the 10 concepts in Dr. David Jeremiah’s book, Forward, that are encapsulated in a single word, we come to the word, “believe.” Continue reading

Sunday Seed Thoughts: Collective, Connective Worship

“Real worship happens when your spirit responds to God,” affirmed Wilson Adams in his 2005 Florida College Lecture, The Nature of God and Man.”

“We worship daily when we pray privately, read and meditate upon the Sacred Word, sing a hymn in traffic, or praise Him openly to a friend.” However, Wilson correctly pointed out that there are “some things our Creator wants His church to do in concert.” We call this collective worship. Weekly Recap: February 21-26

Good morning from Beverly Hills, FL

As the late, great Yogi Berra once quipped, “It’s like déjà vu all over again,” as we unpack boxes and see stuff we haven’t seen for 33 months.

The other day Norma Jean questioned, “Where did THAT come from?” Continue reading
