A Passage To Ponder: 1Peter 1:13-21

Author and evangelical scholar, D. A. Carson,  tells about a time he used to meet with a young man from French West Africa to practice the German language.

The young man was an engineer who need fluency in German in order to pursue a doctoral degree in Germany. His wife resided in London, training to be a medical doctor.

“I soon discovered.” Carson wrote, “ that once or twice a week he disappeared into the red-light district of town. Obviously he went to pay his money and have his woman. Eventually I got to know him well enough that I asked him what he would do if he discovered that his wife was doing something similar in London.” Continue reading →

We Cannot Postpone Living

“We may be able to postpone some decisions but we cannot postpone living,” observed Warren Wiersbe in Looking Up When Life Gets You Down.

This statement jumped out at me as I thumbed through his book looking for something to read.

Wiersbe further reminds us that “Life is a gift from God, and we must treasure it, protect it and invest in it.” Continue reading →

Word of the Week: Submit

Stephen P. Beck relates a time when he was driving down a country road and came to a very narrow bridge. In front of the bridge a sign was posted: YIELD. Seeing no oncoming cars, Beck continued across the bridge to his destination.

On his return, he came to the same one-lane bridge and to his surprise was another YIELD signed posted. Continue reading →

True Worship

“Among the greatest privileges afforded to man is the opportunity to worship the Creator–to bow down before him in reverent acknowledgment of Who He is, to thank Him for His goodness, and to offer Him our praise,” wrote Dan Petty in the introduction of the 2005 Florida College Lectures, “True Worship.

A group of billionaire investors, led by Amazon founder and ex-CEO, Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man, are exploring the secret of living forever. Or at least, extending life well beyond our current expectations.

Multiple new sources including the MIT Technology Review are reporting that Altos Labs, funded by Bezos and others is a startup company pursuing breakthroughs in biological reprogramming technology. Continue reading →

A Passage To Ponder: James 2:14-26

Steve Shepherd tells the story about a fellow leaving worship service one Sunday morning. The preacher was standing at the door shaking hands (You know that’s his job to shake ‘em in, then shake ‘em out).

Well, the preacher grabbed the guy by the hand and said, “Hey, friend, you need to join the Army of the Lord.”

“I’m already in the Army of the Lord,” the man replied.

“Your Truth” Or The Truth?

Last week Vice-President, Kamala Harris, stirred some controversy by her response to a student who made an anti-Israel comment.

“Your truth cannot be suppressed,” Harris told the student.

The exchange took place at George Mason University during a Q & A session when one student questioned funding Israel’s “Iron Dome missile defense system, which has been credited with saving countless Israeli lives,” according to multiple news outlets.

Word of the Week: Oneness

A Texas preacher, Bob Joyce, tells about a church split that began over an argument at a potluck supper.

The dispute started when one of the sisters brought a congealed salad made from cool whip instead of real whipping cream.
