Spiritual Growth is Gradual

Today’s post, according to WordPress, is #3100.

10 ½ years ago I never thought about this little blog being read in 200 countries and territories around the world. Or writing 3100 posts that would encompass 186 categories, which would fill 35 average size books.

So, how did we get here? How did we reach this point? Continue reading

Weekly Recap: July 17-22

Good morning from Port Colborne, Ontario

We’ve enjoyed another very pleasant week here in the Niagara region.  Not only from the cooler temperatures compared to much of the US, but also the wonderful fellowship we’re enjoying with our friends in this area.

Next week I will be teaching the adult class for the Wellandport VBS, as well as preaching the next two Sundays.  So, our last week here will be very busy. But it will be a good kind of busy. Continue reading

Friday’s List To Live By #94

Last week I came across a list by an unknown author, “45 Lessons Life Taught Me.” I shared the first 22 last Friday. Today completes the list.

It contains a bit of “life under the sun” wisdom, some spiritual advice, and a little humor. I think you will like it.

If you missed last week’s list, click here for part one. Continue reading

Practicing What We Profess

According to multiple news outlets, Vice President Kamala Harris has received criticism and “sparked pushback” regarding people of faith supporting abortion.

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court striking down the constitutionality of Roe v Wade, our elected leaders, as well as the liberal news media are trying to garner support for abortion.

Speaking to the NAACP national convention in Atlantic City, N. J. Harris opined again on this issue saying people don’t have to “abandon” their faith in order to support legalized abortion. Later in the day, she made similar remarks regarding “reproductive rights” at a roundtable discussion with New Jersey State legislators. Continue reading

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Patsy Clairmont, the author of God Uses Cracked Pots, shares a true story about her son, Jason. When he was seven, she sent him off to school one day. After a little while, there was a knock at the door and when Patsy opened the door, it was Jason.

“What are you doing here?” she asked.

“I’ve quit school,” he said.

“Why have you quit school, Jason?” she demanded. Continue reading

Compartmentalizing Your Christianity

Author, blogger, and evangelical speaker Paul Tripp offers this unusual challenge.

“The next time you’re standing in your kitchen, bedroom, or at your desk, I want you to look at drawers. Yes, drawers. The place where you store cutlery, clothes, or staplers and pens.”

Tripp then makes the point that too often we compartmentalize our lives like we neatly organize our dresser or kitchen drawers, separating our stuff into various categories. Continue reading

Word of the Week: Priorities

I recently read about two men who were coaches in the National Football League. Both won two Super Bowls. Both are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Both were considered winners in their profession. But each had different life priorities.

The first was a college coach, but when he became a head coach in the NFL he divorced his wife of 26 years saying that he no longer needed “the social prop of a spouse” which was helpful in recruiting college players. He said that winning football games was his #1 priority in life. And his two sons were #2 Continue reading

The King Who Cried

While not specifically stated, the chronology the Jesus’ biographies show that His triumphant entry into Jerusalem prior to His crucifixion was on Sunday.

All three synoptic writers plus John record this emotional and celebratory event when the people cried, “Hosanna!” They praised God, rejoiced in His presence, and proclaimed:

“‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” (Lk. 19:38) Continue reading

Weekly Recap: July 10-15

Good morning from Port Colborne, Ontario

Norma Jean and I feel so blessed to be spending July in Canada.  It’s a pleasure reconnecting with the brethren here, sharing the Word each week, and of course, enjoying the cooler temperatures. It was 59 when I woke up yesterday with a high of 75.  Today may reach 80.  But we can handle that.

Tomorrow morning I am preaching for the church at Wellandport at their 11AM service.  And tomorrow night will be speaking to the Jordan congregation @ 5pm.  Jordan has a rich history dating back to the 1800s.  In fact, Alexander Campbell preached at Jordan in 1840. Continue reading

Friday’s List To Live By #93

Yesterday, I came across a list I’d saved since November 2013. I have no idea who the author is, but it fits the theme of our Friday column. It contains a bit of “life under the sun” wisdom, some spiritual advice, and a little humor. I think you will like it.

For the sake of your reading brevity, I’ve divided it into two columns. Part 1 today. And part 2 next week. Continue reading
