Did Jesus Commit the Sin of Racism?

Brandan Robertson, a homosexual minister, author, and theologian, recently posted a Tik Tok video titled “Jesus a Racist? as reported by Milton Quintanilla a contributor for ChristianHeadlines.com

In the video Robertson claims that Jesus used a racial slur in his encounter with the Syrophoenician woman who asked Christ to heal her daughter from a demon (Mark 7:24-30).

Jesus’ response to the request was “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” Continue reading

A Passage To Ponder: Colossians 3:12-14

“Dress For Success” was a 1975 bestseller by John T. Molloy about the importance and impact of clothing in a person’s personal and business life. It was followed in 1977 by “The Women’s Dress for Success Book.” These two books popularized the concept of “power dressing.”

Based on scientific data, Molloy not only discussed wearing the right clothes for the right occasion but how one’s attire has a subconscious impact on others who judge you by the clothes you’re wearing. His works were so widely received that Time magazine called Molloy “America’s first wardrobe engineer.’ Continue reading

Honoring Women And Honorable Women

After writing and posting yesterday’s blog, I turned on the Today show and learned it was International Women’s Day.

If you’re not familiar with IWD, according to their web page “International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.” Their history goes back to 1911 to the first celebration in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland.

In 1975 the United Nations celebrated IWD for the first time. In 1996 the UN adopted an annual theme. And in 2011 President Obama proclaimed March to be “Women’s History Month” and called upon Americans to celebrate women’s accomplishments. Continue reading

Word of the Week: Invest

In his book, Forward, David Jeremiah, tells the story of See’s Candies, began by a Canadian couple, Charles and Florence See.

Charles’ mother, Mary, moved with them and brought her treasured recipes for candies. In November of 1921, they opened their first candy store in Los Angeles. In 1972 the See family sold their thriving business for $25 million to Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate. Continue reading

Sunday Seed Thoughts: Preaching in the Present Tense

“It has been well said that nobody goes to church to find out what happened to the Jebusites,” opined Warren and David Wiersbe in their fine little book, The Elements of Preaching.

The Wiersbes continue with this advice, “A sermon that lingers in the past tense is not really a sermon at all; it is either a Bible story or a lecture. We live in the present tense and we need to hear what God has to say to us today.” Continue reading

Weekly Recap: February 28-March 5

Good Morning from Beverly Hills, FL

We’re gradually getting settled in our new home and enjoying the slower pace and quiet “country life” here in Citrus county.

This month I will be preaching each Sunday morning at the West Citrus Church.  So, if you’re traveling through our area, please stop and worship with us.

In addition, we’ve added some meeting and preaching dates to our 2021 schedule.

Friday’s List To Live By #29

Today’s list comes from a book I found while unpacking. It’s a personally autographed copy of You’re Born An Original Don’t Die a Copy, by John Mason. It consists of 52 nuggets, as he calls them, one for each week of the year.

Slightly adapted and with some added scriptural references, here’s Nugget #29 for our 29th “List to Live By.”

Today I Will… Continue reading

It’s Not About The Stuff

As our regular readers know for the past 33 months, Norma Jean and I have been homeless. Sorta.

When we decided to step back from working full time with a local church and travel, engaging in an itinerant ministry, we gave up a house we called home, got rid of a lot of stuff, packed up what we wanted to keep, and put it in a storage unit in Florida. Continue reading

A Passage To Ponder: Hebrews 11:20-22

“God’s delays are not God’s denials,” affirmed the 19th-century British minister George Müller.

Müller was a man of faith who believed in Divine providence, the efficacy of prayer, and the promises of God. “Too many Christians today,” opined Tony Abram, want ‘Fast Food’ answers. We are not willing to wait on the Lord God’s timetable. It is not always what we want but His timetable is the best for us.”

There are no better Bible examples of patiently waiting and faithfully believing in God’s promises than the heroes and heroines of Hebrews 11. Continue reading

Making The Old New

“What’s new?” a friend good-naturedly asks.

“Nothing, really. Just the same old same old,” comes the hackneyed, time-worn reply.

The response is suggestive of a life that’s in a rut. Boring. Lifeless. Listless. And mundane. How sad.

Well, today is the day to make a change. Because it’s National “Old Stuff Day” Continue reading
