Gosnell Guilty!

Kermit GosnellThe Jury returned the verdict Monday.  Dr. Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia physician, was convicted of first degree murder.

He was guilty of murdering three babies born alive in his abortion clinic.

He was guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the overdose death of an adult patient.

The grisly details reported by Fox News and the ensuing guilty verdict has shocked even abortion advocates and exposed the disturbing details of what really occurs in abortion clinics.  I will spare our readers  the appalling  practices performed by Gosnell.  But they were so shocking it is said reporters did not want to cover the trial and report it. That’s not my purpose here.

I want to emphasize that Gosnell is guilty.  Not just of three counts of murder and manslaughter by a Jury of His peers.

He is guilty of violating the Hippocratic Oath.

He is guilty of inhumanity.

He is guilty of disrespecting the sanctity of life.

He is guilty of endangering the bodies and souls of thousands of women.

He is guilty of adding to the national disgrace of 55 million aborted babies since its legalization.

He is guilty of brazen, barbaric, and unethical medical practices.

He is guilty of killing innocent life in the Supreme Court of Almighty God.

Gosnell and abortion advocates like to speak of a woman’s fetus, as if it’s some inanimate clump of tissue.  This trial has reminded us otherwise.  It’s raised new issues regarding viability.  And the beginning of life.

The Bible uses the expression “with child” 26 times to refer to pregnant women. The term fetus is never used. Luke, the physician, records that Elisabeth, the mother of John the Immerser, conceived a son (1:35). In verse 41 the doctor wrote “the baby leaped in her womb.” The baby! Not the fetus! It is the same Greek word that Luke uses to describe Jesus after he was born (2:12, 16). God views the unborn baby and the newborn baby in the same way. Both are living human beings.

In the midst of his suffering Job cries out, “Or why was I not hidden like a stillborn child, Like infants who never saw light?” (3:16). The unborn child is called an infant!

In describing the greatness of Jehovah’s power and majesty, the Psalmist, David, describes himself as a person, unborn in his mother’s womb.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. (Ps 139:13-16)

It was 40 years ago that the Supreme Court decision, Roe v Wade, legalized abortion.  Ironically, as I write these words it is the 40th birthday of our son, Kenny.  In the past couple of days, he’s enjoyed hearing what it was like when Norma Jean was carrying him, and the events surrounding his birth.

In looking back, never once did we think of her pregnancy as carrying a fetus.  Or a clump of issue.  We said, “We’re going to have a baby!  Baby Kenny!”  Today, as we remember, reminisce and celebrate his birth, we will relish the occasion.

But it is sad to think of the 55 million who never had a chance.  The chance of a birth day.  A chance for life. A chance to make memories. Enjoy birthday parties.  To bring joy to their parents.  A chance to realize their potential.  A chance to make society a better place. A chance to find and fulfill God’s purpose for their lives.

I hope and pray that in some ways Gosnell’s guilt will touch the collective consciences of our culture.  That we can return to respecting the sanctity of life.  And that in 40 years children who may have been murdered will have the opportunity to celebrate a birthday.

Well said, Ken. The shame of this nation is our allowance of abortion for ANY reason. Interestingly, we are loathe to execute convicted murderers but have no problem executing unborn babies!

Since Roe vs. Wade, collectively America is no better than Nazi Germany in the Holocaust. And the exception that so-called “right-to-life” supporters give, “except in the case of rape, incest, or the life of the mother”, is simply a cop-out that allows for the murder of children who are unfortunate enough to be in that category.

A child is a child, no matter the circumstance of his or her conception, and should have the same rights as any other human. This is not my opinion. It is a matter of divine revelation. America (that’s US) needs to respect both human life and the will of God in this matter.

A very good entry today. It is so sad that some Americans approve abortion.
It is comforting to know the aborted little ones are in God’s arms now but I think of the emotional and spiritual havoc it has brought on the mother’s lives.

You have such a wonderful ability to put into words what so many others can only feel. I am so appalled by this man’s actions and so relieved they were brought to light and justice served.

At the same time, his actions are just the tip of the iceberg and are repeated over and over daily. Maybe this debacle will bring more awareness of the carnage that accompanies this procedure, and make people think more about this type of decision.

Great thoughts, Ken! What a shock! Our boys are older now than we were when they met and played together in the back yard!
