How To Treat a Loved One Who’s a Homosexual

In a recently published post, “The Love God Hates,” I pointed out that we should not love that which God hates.

In numerous passages the Bible speaks of hating wickedness, unrighteousness and ungodliness. (Ps 45:7: Prov 6:17-19). As the people of God we are commanded to be holy and not to love worldliness (1 Jn 2:15-17), but to “hate evil (and) do good.”

In the post I related the story of man who’s daughter admitted she was a lesbian. While he initially expressed his disapproval, eventually he joyfully embraced his daughter’s choice and apparently is going to host the wedding.

A reader responded and asked my advice on how to handle the situation. Here are 7 things I would suggest. Continue reading

Great Verses of the Bible: Matt 18:15

A Pennsylvania preacher, Doug Henry, tells a funny story about a Maryland woman, Edith, who was a mother of eight children.

One Saturday afternoon Edith was returning home from visiting a neighbor. As she began to enter the house, she noticed 5 of her youngest children, all huddled together, looking at something that captivated their curiosity. As she quietly tip-toed over to see what was happening, she could hardly believe her eyes. In the middle of the circle were several baby skunks.

“Run, children, run,” she screamed at the top of her voice. Continue reading

God’s Cure For Loneliness

According to blogger Leah Hickman “America has a loneliness problem.”

In an article in ChristianHeadlines.com Hickman reports that “the health insurer Cigna recently conducted a survey on loneliness in the United States. In the final report, about half of the 20,000 respondents said that they struggle with loneliness—specifically, “sometimes or always” feeling alone or left out. The study also found that two out of every five respondents felt isolation, a lack of companionship, or a lack of meaning in their relationships.” Continue reading

One Relationship Rule That Will Drastically Change Your Life Forever

Happy group of co-workers standing in office

“Too often, we judge other groups by their worst examples, while judging ourselves by our best intentions.”

This memorable line is by former President George W. Bush as he spoke at the memorial service for the 5 slain Dallas police officers. Mr. Bush was brief in his remarks. Only 6 ½ minutes. But they were passionate. Powerful. And penetrating. His words have been tweeted. Retweeted. Posted on facebook.  And the subject of newspaper articles and TV news shows. Continue reading

GREAT VERSES OF THE BIBLE: Proverbs 27:15

Couple Having Argument At Home

I woke up early this morning. Very early. Way too early! It was 3:00 a.m.

I couldn’t go back to sleep because in the stillness of the night there was this constant, continual sound. Drip. Drip. Drip.

It had rained sometime during the night, which I did not hear, and now all that’s  left is the ever so slight, but annoying sound of water dripping off the roof to the patio below.

It reminded me of a classic metaphor by the wise man in Proverbs 27:15. Continue reading

Time.People

For more than a week Norma Jean and I’ve have been on the go. We’ve been away from home. From our normal activities. And from the daily habits that seem to come with a regular routine.

As I end my part of the journey, I was thinking about some things that I’ve missed for the past 9 days. Continue reading

Caring Enough to Lift the Fallen

Runner Helping

Melvin Newland tells a touching story that comes out of the Special Olympics several years ago.

Enthusiasm and excitement filled the air as these special needs children enjoyed athletic competition but also the camaraderie of being with each other. One event was the 220 yard dash. The contestants lined up, and at the signal they began running as fast as they could. Continue reading
