Last Thursday evening Norma Jean and I were privileged to attend the Florida College Leadership Dinner and hear former Vice-President Mike Pence share a message about servant-leadership.

Mr. Pence spoke of qualities that have served him well as he’s navigated the world of business and politics. From his humble beginnings growing up in a small Indiana town, to a seat in Congress, to the Governors’ mansion in Indiana, to the Vice Presidency, Mr. Pence emphasized the importance of faith, family and service. Friday’s List to Live By #11

Today’s list comes from a book by Terry Brown and Michael Ross entitled “Communicate: Experience Him. Share Him,” which they compiled from various Scriptures.

Each point about integrity serves as an important reminder that we need to constantly examine ourselves and be sure that we’re being true to our values, beliefs, and core principles.

Integrity in the Business World

Last night Norma Jean and I attended the 12th annual Florida College Leadership Dinner.

It was a wonderful evening of warm fellowship with many of our friends who are supporters of Florida College. It was an opportunity to support FC’s business department with scholarships and hear featured speaker Steve Forbes. And of course, to enjoy a delicious meal. Continue reading

What A-Rod Could Learn from Davis Riley


Even if you’re not a baseball fan, it would be difficult to miss the big news of the latest scandal involving performance enhancing drugs.

Ryan Braun is already serving a negotiated 65 game suspension.  It’s rumored as many as 20 others may be found guilty including New York Yankee superstar Alex Rodriguez.  While many are continuing to work with MLB,  negotiating shorter suspensions, A-Rod has vowed to fight it.  Continue reading

Word of the Week: Integrity


There is an ancient fable of  an Emperor from China who had no children and needed to choose a successor.

Thousands of children from across the kingdom were called to the palace and were shocked when the Emperor exclaimed, “I have decided to choose one of you.”

“I am going to give each one of you a seed today. One very special seed. I want you to plant the seed, water it and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next emperor!” Continue reading
