Sunday Seed Thoughts: God Is (6)

Seed Thoughts

For the past several Sundays we have considered the attributes of God from A-Z. Remember these are only 26 of literally hundreds of His Divine qualities. Today we conclude with the final four that remind us how great God is.

GOD IS…. Continue reading

Emile Calliet, in Alone at High Noon, wrote, “He who consciously or unconsciously has chosen to ignore God is an orphan in the universe…”

For the past three weeks, we have recognized many of God’s qualities from A-Z. Today, let’s reflect on four more. Continue reading

Sunday Seed Thoughts: God Is (3)

Seed Thoughts

Nature proclaims there is a God. We see the demonstration of his power and His creative genius in the universe. But when it comes to the qualities and characteristics of God, we can only know them through the revelation of His Word.

The past two weeks  we have been reflecting on His attributes from A-Z. Today, let’s notice three more.  Continue reading

God is Light

Light.God is

This week Norma Jean and I are in Tampa, Florida, attending the Florida College Lectures. This year’s theme is: “Light Shall shine Out of Darkness: God’s Light in an Age of Darkness.”

In the forward to the lecture book, Florida College President Buddy Payne wrote, “Ever since the beginning of the world, God has proven Himself to be the Giver of Light in all its forms.  He inhabits light.  He is light.  He made the light of this world, and He has sent His spiritual light to earth personably in Jesus, who Himself is the Light of the World.  Everything God is and does is described as light.”  Continue reading

Thank You, God, For Everything!

Matthew Henry was a well-known, British Bible scholar and Preacher who lived from 1662 to 1714.  His commentaries on the Old and New Testament are still in print today.

One day Dr. Henry was riding his horse on the way to a church meeting where he was the guest speaker.  As he journeyed through the dense forest a masked bandit suddenly appeared with a gun.  He demanded that Henry dismount and hand over all of his money.  Fearing for his life, he quickly complied as the robber returned into the woods. Jehovah God: Holy and Hallowed

Holy.Hallowed

Monday’s column on the “Word of the Week:  Hallowed” elicited these questions from one of our readers.

Hello good brother!

Could you comment on a couple of points a bit further?

1) The name of God is hallowed. I would like to hear commentary on his name (Yahweh) versus the word “God” or “Lord.”  Or are all of those words hallowed? If all, why? Continue reading

Word of the Week: Hallowed

Praying.Boy.Bedtime

Did you hear about the father who was listening to his son say his prayers one evening?

The little boy began, “Dear Harold…”

Quickly, the dad interrupted and said, “Wait!  Why did you call God “Harold”?

The little fellow looked up and said, “That’s what we learned in Bible class.” Continue reading

Word of the Week: Majesty

IMG_0882

Beautiful.  Incredible.  Gorgeous.  Awesome. Amazing. Majestic.  These and other descriptive words were exchanged by Norma Jean and me as we enjoyed our trip to the Rocky Mountains last week.

From the Vail Valley to Independence Pass.  From Breckenridge to Aspen.  From Beaver Creek to Piney River.  It was one awe-inspiring, breath-taking, God-affirming sight after another. Continue reading

Searching The Depths!

HolySpiritOn this day in history 83 years ago William Beebe set a record.  On June 11, 1930, Beebe dove to a record-setting depth of 1,426 feet off the coast of Bermuda. He used a diving chamber, invented by Otis Barton,  called a bathysphere.

This caught my eye because of the derivation of the word “bathysphere.”  It’s a compound word. The first part comes from the Greek word “bathos” which means deep.   It’s used by Paul in explaining the revelation of God’s Word by the Holy Spirit.  Continue reading
