Will Marriage Equality Soon Include Polygamy?

“Will Polygamy be legalized in the United States?” asked Kiley Crossland in a recent WORLD News Service report.

“Acceptance of polygamy is at an all-time high, according to recent Gallup poll.”

“The survey found 17 percent of Americans say the practice of having more than one spouse is “morally acceptable,” up from 14 percent a year ago and more than double the 7 percent who found it acceptable when Gallup started polling in 2003.” Continue reading

How NOT To Convert Muslims to Christianity

Last Saturday an explosive device was detonated at a suburban Minneapolis mosque as people were preparing for morning prayers. Although the windows of the imam’s office where shattered, fortunately, no one was killed or injured.

Various news outlets that reported this attack also cited an increasing number of such incidents targeting Muslims. Continue reading

Word of the Week: Submission

Paul Aiello tells a story about the captain of the ship who looked into the dark night and saw faint lights in the distance. Immediately he told his signalman to send a message” “Alter your course 10 degrees south.”

Promptly a return message was received: “Alter your course 10 degrees north.”

The captain was angered; his command had been ignored. So he sent a second message: “Alter your course 10 degrees south–I am the captain!” Continue reading

“Chick-fil-A is dominating fast food” according to an article this week in Business Insider.

Journalist Hayley Peterson reports that “the company generates more revenue per restaurant than any other fast-food chain in the US.”

“Despite its relatively small size, Chick-fil-A also ranks highly in terms of its total sales. The chain generated nearly $8 billion in revenue in 2016, making it the eighth-largest fast-food chain in the US, according to QSR.” Continue reading

Great Verses of the Bible: Daniel 1:8

I recently read a story about Charles Spurgeon, the 19th-century British evangelist, who was conducting a boys Bible class on the book of Daniel.

One of the boys was asked to read some verses aloud, and he came to the passage in Daniel 6:3 which reads “…Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him.” Continue reading

Marguerite Provost tells about her 3-year-old granddaughter, Beverly, who was playing with her toys. Beverly’s mother was in the laundry room loading clothes into the washer and noticed that Beverly’s shirt was dirty and needed to be washed.

After calling twice with no response, her mother gave the full three name call: BEVERLY ELIZABETH PROVOST, DID YOU HEAR ME? Continue reading

Word of the Week: Moderation

“Let your moderation be known unto all men,” exhorted the Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:5.

The admonition to moderation may seem like a simple command, but it’s actually a good deal more complex in application than it appears on the surface.

The English Oxford Dictionary defines moderation as “The avoidance of excess or extremes, especially in one’s behavior or political opinions.” Continue reading

5 Ways To Revive Your Spiritual Passion

John Mason, in his book, Let Go of Whatever Makes You Stop, wrote, “The trouble with many educated (people) is that learning goes to their heads and not to their hearts. The heart is something of a prophet. The heart is no traitor. It is only with the heart that one can see correctly; what is required is invisible to the eye.

Mason’s words, unfortunately, speak to many Christians who have lost their passion for the Lord. Their Bible knowledge and learning, though it may be extensive, has only affected them intellectually, but not touched them emotionally. Or if it once did, that passion has subsided over the years.
