“What’s your secret?” we are asked when people find out we’re celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary.
Since we are asked that question often, Norma Jean and I have come up with some answers we think have made our marriage work. “Secrets” that are not really secrets, but are not always practiced or even accepted by many people today.

Yesterday, as Norma Jean and I toured the National Museum of Archaeology in Athens and viewed the artifacts of the great thinkers and philosophers of Greece and Rome, it occurred to me that, despite their intellectual acumen, most did not truly know Jehovah God.
Yesterday’s post discussed Paul’s sermon, revealing to the Epicureans and Stoics “The Unknown God” as Jehovah God. Many mocked the apostle’s message. Regardless, God has revealed Himself to us. Continue reading

Yesterday Norma Jean and I spent the morning touring the area of the Areopagus and The Parthenon, where the virgin goddess Athena was worshiped. Previously I had only seen pictures and visited the Athens of the south, Nashville, Tennesse and seen its replica.
It is amazing to see the actual Parthenon, built between 447 and 438 B.C. As I looked across to Areopagus Hill, I thought about the apostle Paul’s visit to this same city as recorded by Luke in Acts 17. Continue reading

Yesterday Norma Jean and I toured the Panathenaic Stadium, a multi-purpose stadium in Athens, Greece. It is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble.
Originally built in the 4th century B.C., it was rebuilt in 144 B.C. in marble by Herodes Atticus, an Athenian Roman senator. After the 4th century it was abandoned until excavated in 1869 and hosted the Zappas Olympics in 1870 and 1875. After being refurbished, it was the site of the first modern Olympics in 1896. Yesterday was a unique and wonderful experience for Norma Jean and me.
The day began in a most unusual way as we slept in until 11:00 am. That has never happened on a Sunday morning. Obviously, we were catching up on the missed sleep on the flight from the United States to Greece.
After enjoying some local coffee and Greek pastry, we ventured out to explore some of the sites close to our apartment. Following an enjoyable lunch with the best gyros I’ve ever eaten, we hurried back to our temporary home to get ready for the 6:00 p.m. worship service in English. Continue reading

“A Georgia teenager wrote a letter to God and then sent it to the clouds attached to helium balloons – and was shocked this week when she received a response,” reported Michael Foust in ChristianHeadlines.com
“The 18-year-old teen girl, Mykehia Curry,” Foust wrote, “was inspired to write a letter to God about her financial situation. She is planning to attend college.”
