A Passage To Ponder: Hebrews 11:20-22

“God’s delays are not God’s denials,” affirmed the 19th-century British minister George Müller.

Müller was a man of faith who believed in Divine providence, the efficacy of prayer, and the promises of God. “Too many Christians today,” opined Tony Abram, want ‘Fast Food’ answers. We are not willing to wait on the Lord God’s timetable. It is not always what we want but His timetable is the best for us.”

There are no better Bible examples of patiently waiting and faithfully believing in God’s promises than the heroes and heroines of Hebrews 11. Continue reading →

The power of belief has been well documented in physical and material pursuits in life. From sports to business, to our personal goals and dreams belief in a necessary ingredient for success.

Napoleon Hill, known for his books on self-help and positive thinking, in his classic bestseller Think and Grow Rich, wrote, “Whatever your mind can conceive, and believe, it can achieve.”

Sunday Seed Thoughts: Collective, Connective Worship

“Real worship happens when your spirit responds to God,” affirmed Wilson Adams in his 2005 Florida College Lecture, The Nature of God and Man.”

“We worship daily when we pray privately, read and meditate upon the Sacred Word, sing a hymn in traffic, or praise Him openly to a friend.” However, Wilson correctly pointed out that there are “some things our Creator wants His church to do in concert.” We call this collective worship. Opposition to God’s Kingdom

Last night at the West Citrus Church, where we’re now members, Tom Quinn taught a wonderful lesson about Jesus’ parable of “The Wheat and the Weeds.” It was interesting. Insightful. Thought-provoking. And supplied fodder for today’s post.

If you’re not familiar with the parable it’s found in Matthew 13:24-30, as one of several parables that begin, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like…” Later the disciples asked Jesus for its explanation. So, it’s one of the few that we actually have Jesus’ own interpretation (Matt. 13:36-43). Continue reading →

A Passage To Ponder: Hebrews 4:14-16

C. S. Lewis, from his book, “God in the Dock,” offers this interesting bit of dialogue regarding prayer.

“Praying for particular things,” said I, “always seems to me like advising God how to run the world. Wouldn’t it be wiser to assume that He knows best?”

“On the same principle,” said he, “I suppose you never ask a man next to you to pass the salt because God knows best whether you ought to have salt or not. And I suppose you never take an umbrella because God knows best whether you ought to be wet or dry.”

Reminded of Death

“Ash Wednesday rituals tweaked for Coronavirus as Christians are reminded of death,” read a February 16th headline in the religious section of the Washington Post.
