God is Watching

apples

It’s Saturday and time for a little humor to end our week.

Did you hear about the children who were lined up in the cafeteria of a “Christian” elementary school for lunch?

At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. Because the children had been taking multiple apples and then wasting them, someone made a note, and posted on the apple tray, “Take only one. God is watching.” Continue reading

Magnify The Lord

Magnify the Lord

Larry Byerly tells about a time he was driving one foggy night. “I topped a hill and I could see through the fog for a moment. What an awesome sight!” Larry exclaimed.

“The clouds were scurrying along at a rather quick pace, across the face of the huge moon that seemed to softly light up the entire sky. Quite a change from driving in that fog with “no vision.” Continue reading

Bless The Lord

Bless

“Unbelief puts our circumstances between us and God,” wrote F. B. Meyer, “but faith puts God between us and our circumstances.”

We live in an age where many people, including Christians, allow themselves to be paralyzed by their fears, restricted by their disappointments, and confined by their circumstances. We place too much confidence on finite human ingenuity and not enough on the infinite power, protection and providence of God. Continue reading

You Are My God

God. My God

Three days and three nights. 15 Lectures. 15 men. And 15 Psalms. Now the 2016 Florida College Lectures have ended. But, not my renewed quest to know God. Heighten the awareness of God in my life. And enhance my relationship with God.

The theme, “You Are My God,” has served us well. Actually, more than “well.” It has been magnificent. We have been revived. Renewed. And energized. Last night Ralph Walker closed the Lectures with a lesson based on Psalm 145, “I Will Bless Your Name Forever.” Continue reading

God is Light

Light.God is

This week Norma Jean and I are in Tampa, Florida, attending the Florida College Lectures. This year’s theme is: “Light Shall shine Out of Darkness: God’s Light in an Age of Darkness.”

In the forward to the lecture book, Florida College President Buddy Payne wrote, “Ever since the beginning of the world, God has proven Himself to be the Giver of Light in all its forms.  He inhabits light.  He is light.  He made the light of this world, and He has sent His spiritual light to earth personably in Jesus, who Himself is the Light of the World.  Everything God is and does is described as light.”  Continue reading

Ingredients for a Tasty Life!

Taste.The.Lord

“100 Places To Eat Before You Die” shouted the internet headline! I like to eat, so I read to see what I had been missing! Fortunately, one is right here in Kansas City, Oklahoma Joe’s. It’s bar-b-que. And it’s really good!

I got to thinking how much focus America puts on food. We love to eat! And we love to eat out.   We love our burgers and fries. Steaks and seafood. And chicken fixed a 100 different ways.    Continue reading

Do You Really “Know God” ?

Intimacy.God

My wife, Norma Jean, has a daily devotional book by Sarah Young called Take My Heart, Oh God. Today’s quote, by Jane Rubietta, is: “The more we know God, the more deeply we love God.”

Think about it. Do you know God? Really know God?  Continue reading

9 Things I Know From Noah

Noah

The much-anticipated movie “Noah” debuted this past week-end. The film was a #1 box-office hit, raking in $44 million. Director Darren Aronofsky, an avowed atheist, created controversy by saying his film was   “the least biblical, biblical movie ever made.”

Reaction has been mixed, both among critics and Christians.  Continue reading
