You Are My God

God. My God

Three days and three nights. 15 Lectures. 15 men. And 15 Psalms. Now the 2016 Florida College Lectures have ended. But, not my renewed quest to know God. Heighten the awareness of God in my life. And enhance my relationship with God.

The theme, “You Are My God,” has served us well. Actually, more than “well.” It has been magnificent. We have been revived. Renewed. And energized. Last night Ralph Walker closed the Lectures with a lesson based on Psalm 145, “I Will Bless Your Name Forever.”

Ralph’s lesson was a powerful presentation, inspiring us with scripture, song and personal testimony as he called for us to raise our level of praise and appreciation for the God we serve. It was a final call this week to remind us of God’s greatness, goodness and grace. It was a call to worship. And a call to pass on our Faith and our relationship with God to succeeding generations.

As I reflect this morning, under the shroud of darkness, I’m pondering the many passages and expressions from the Psalmist that attest to God’s glory and bless His name.

The Psalmist exclaimed, “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water” (Ps. 63:1)

My God. Yes, Yahweh is my God.

And my God is…

Awesome. “Let them praise Your great and awesome name” (Ps. 99:3)

Compassionate. “The Lord is good to all, and his compassion is over all that he has made.” (Ps. 145:9)

Faithful. “The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he had made.” (Ps. 145:13)

Good. “For the Lord is good, and his mercy is never-ending; his faith is unchanging through all generations.” (Ps. 110:5)

Holy. “Exalt the Lord our God, And worship at His holy hill; For the Lord our God is holy.” (Ps. 99:9)

Just. “The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy. (PS 111:7).

Kind. “Blessed be the Lord, For He has shown me His marvelous kindness…” (Ps 31:21)

Love. “For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him.” (Ps. 103:11)

Merciful. “The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy” (Ps 103:8)

Near. “The Lord is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth.” (Ps 145:18)

Powerful. “Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite. (PS 147:5)

Trustworthy. “In You our fathers put their trust; they trusted and You delivered them. They cried to You and were saved; in You they trusted and were not disappointed.” (Ps 22:4-5)

Victorious. “I do not trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory; but You give us victory over our enemies, You put our adversaries to shame.” (Ps 44:60-7)

My God.

Not flippant words. Vain words. Or words of carnal excitement. But words I’ve come to better appreciate and understand this week. Words of acknowledgment. Confidence. Trust. Relationship. And personal experience.

“You are my God, and I will praise You; You are my God, I will exalt You” (Ps 118:28)
