Friday’s List To Live By #54

In J.J. Turner’s little book, God’s Way To The Top is a seemingly unlikely and out-of-place chapter in book encouraging positive attitudes entitled “The Power of Negative Thinking.”

Turner suggests “Man is like a battery; he can’t operate without a positive and negative.” He points out that the Bible contains many negative commands and statements, when observed and obeyed, produce a positive result in our lives.

Slightly adapted from Turner’s book, here are 10 that will bless you. Continue reading

Three Lessons From a Man Raised by Homosexual Parents

“I never want to be a Christian,” declared Caleb Kaltenbach.

Kaltenbach, whose parents divorced when he was two years old, both went into same-sex relationships. As a result, he was raised by homosexual parents who were LGBT activists.

In a story by Christian Post, Op-ed contributor, Billy Hallowell, stemming from his podcast interview, he relates Kaltenbach’s spiritual journey. Continue reading

Confusing Military Action With God’s Mission

For the past several weeks, and especially the past few days, the daily news cycle has been filled with stories and opinions about the American withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

Last week following the suicide bombing at Kabul airport, President Biden responded to the attack, honoring the slain soldiers by quoting a surprising, and very inappropriate Bible verse.

Here’s the context of the President’s remarks: Continue reading

Word of the Week: Wisdom

“Out of the mouth of babes,” is a proverbial and biblical idiom we use to express the unique and sometimes humorous wisdom of children.

Here are a few that have made the rounds for years by an unnamed author and source.

Patrick age 10: “Never trust a dog to watch your food.”

Michael age 14: “When your dad is mad and asks you, “Do I look stupid?” don’t answer him.” Continue reading

Friday’s List to Live By #53

Edgar Watson Howe once joked, “No man would listen to you talk if he didn’t know it was his turn next.”

Indeed listening is a lost art.

Today’s list is based on John Maxwell’s book, “Becoming a Person of Influence.” In it, Maxwell offers 9 suggestions to help you become a better listener. Continue reading

Biblical Beliefs Declining

This was Sunday’s headline in the Christian Post:

60% of adults under 40 say Jesus isn’t only way to salvation;
equal to Buddha, Muhammad

In a recent study of so-called “born again Christians” in the US between the ages of 18 and 39, more than 60% said they believed “that Buddha, Muhammad, and Jesus are all valid paths to salvation.”

The same study found that over 30% believed that “Jesus sinned just like other people when He lived on Earth or aren’t sure.” Continue reading

A Passage To Ponder: Matthew 28:18-20

Plaque on a preacher’s desk:

“I’m just a NOBODY telling
EVERYBODY
about SOMEBODY
who can save ANYBODY!”

This succinct sign summarizes our responsibility to share the Good News about Jesus with others. Today’s passage speaks to that wonderful challenge and blessed opportunity.

We call it “The Great Commission.” Continue reading
