“What, in your opinion, is the greatest spiritual need in the world today?” How would you answer that question?
Dr. R.C. Sproul, the noted author, philosopher and theologian, was asked that question in a conference of religious leaders. Bill Hybels, in his book “The God You’re Looking For,” was there and relates what happened.
“Dr. Sproul paused, then replied, “The greatest need in people’s lives today is to discover the true identity of God.” Hybels wrote, “that he pointed out that most non-religious people do not really understand the God they’re rejecting. If they did, they would probably call a truce–at least a temporary truce–to make sure the battle was worth continuing.”
As a follow up someone asked Dr. Sproul, “What, in your opinion, is the greatest need in the lives of church people?”
Srpoul’s answer was the same! “To discover the true identity of God!” Then he adds, “If believers really understood the character and personality and the nature of God, it would revolutionize their lives.”
The point? We all need to know God. Not just the skeptic or the seeker. But also the saved.
In each one of the past two posts we have shared nine attributes of the Almighty.

In the third of this three part series, we share nine more. They cover 27 qualities from A-Z. They are Bible-based. And God-focused.
Refuge. “the Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed. A refuge in times of trouble. And those who know your name will put their trust in You; for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.” Ps. 9:9,10 (NKJV)
Sovereign. “Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the Lord? There is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is no one besides me. Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.” —Isa. 45:21-22, NRSV
Trustworthy. “In You our fathers put their trust; they trusted and You delivered them. They cried to You and were saved; in You they trusted and were not disappointed.” —Ps 22:4-5, , NIV
Unchanging. “You Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands; they will perish, but You remain; and they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will fold them up, and they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail.” —Heb 1:10-12, NKJV
Victorious. “I do not trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory; but You give us victory over our enemies, You put our adversaries to shame.” —Ps 44:60-7, NIV
Wisdom. “Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand His decisions and His ways!” –Rom. 11:33
Xcellent. “How excellent is Your name in all the earth” –Ps 8:1
Yearning (For Us). “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us” –Jas 4:5, ESV
Zealous. “I am zealous for Jerusalem And for Zion with great zeal. –Zech 1:14, NKJV
French philosopher Emile Cailliet was right when he wrote, “He who consciously or unconsciously has chosen to ignore God is an orphan in the universe.”

I love the A-Z list of God’s attributes with a Scripture for each. I’m going to copy and print these to keep in my Bible. It’s amazing that one of the attributes you’ve listed in today’s post – Sovereign – is the topic of our post today on The Romantic Vineyard. We provide an excellent worship video as well. Have a blessed day!
