Sunday Seed Thoughts: God Is.

On Friday my friend, preaching colleague, and fellow blogger, Roger Shouse posted a piece reflecting on the 1966 Time Magazine cover question “IS GOD DEAD?” I recommend you read it.

We survived the turbulence of the 1960’s unrest. In the ensuing years, we’ve experienced many more periods of civil, social, and political confusion, controversy, and crisis.

As Roger noted, during the past 55 years many people and sadly most modern churches have given up on God’s Way. Deviated from God’s work. And abandoned God’s work Continue reading

Word of the Week: Dream

In his book “Forward,” David Jeremiah tells a neat story about an Alabama woman, Mary Anderson.

In 1902 Mary was visiting New York City during a winter snowstorm. While riding a streetcar she noticed the driver had a problem with visibility because of the sleet and snow. He either had to stop and wipe the snow off the window or keep it open. Continue reading

A Warning From My Friend Roger: PAY ATTENTION

pay-attention

My friend and preaching colleague Roger Shouse in New Albany, Indiana, publishes a very fine blog entitled Jump Starts Daily. You would both enjoy and profit spiritually from reading it.

In Letters to God, kids were asked to write to God with their requests, here’s what a few of them wrote.

Dear GOD, is it true my father won’t get in Heaven if he uses his bowling words in the house? Anita

Dear GOD, maybe Cain and Abel would not kill each other so much if they had their own rooms. It works with my brother. Larry

Dear GOD, did you really mean, “do unto others as they do unto you”? Because if you did, then I’m going to fix my brother! Chris Continue reading

God’s Love and Mercy for Sinners

Great Bible Themes

“Great Bible Themes” is the focus of the 36th annual Southside Lecture. My preaching colleagues and I began with four fundamental lessons that speak to human need and God’s empathy for the human race.

Don Truex addressed “The Disastrous Effects of Sin.” Roger Shouse shared “The Vastness and Beauty of God’s Love.” Kenny Moorer expounded on “The Wideness of God’s Mercy.” And I spoke of “The Joy of Fellowship with God.”

These four great themes deal with the reality of life. The nature of mankind. The need that is common to us. And the nature and personality of our Creator. Continue reading
