MEMBERSHIP: ITS BLESSINGS AND BENEFITS

“Membership has its Privileges” touts an American Express commercial.  The credit card and financial services company  has promoted the idea of membership for years.  Their slogan speaks of the benefits of membership.  The same is true of many clubs and organizations that are seeking to sell prospective members on the benefits of being in their organization. Four Expectations from Worship

In his book, When GOD Builds a Church, Bob Russell suggests there are four things we should legitimately expect from authentic worship. (1) A sense of God’s Presence. (2) A Conviction of our Sinfulness.  (3) A Joyful Reminder of God’s Grace.  (4) The Inspiration to Serve. While there may be other expectations, I can’t disagree with these four. Continue reading

Worship Changes Worshipers

“Worship changes the worshiper into the image of the One worshiped.”

This quote by Jack Hayford reminds me of Romans 8:29 where Paul wrote that Christians are to be “conformed to the image of His Son.”  In other words we are to become like the One we worship.  We are, as Peter put it, to become “partakers of the divine nature.” Continue reading
