Getting Rid of Excess Baggage

The movers are coming in four weeks to load our earthly possessions and take us to Kansas City, Missouri.  For the past couple of weeks we have been going through stuff.  Sorting. Separating. Discarding. Keeping. Leaving.  You name it!   Continue reading

Are You Gettin’ Better?

Baseball has begun.  So it must be Spring!  And how about those Tampa Bay Rays beginning the season with a 3-0 sweep of the Yankees?!

One of my favorite baseball stories involves famed St. Louis Cardinal pitcher, Dizzy Dean, a member of the so-called “gas-house gang.”  In 1934 Dizzy had a 30-7 record.  He led the league in strike-outs.  Led the league in shutouts.  And won two games in the World Series, including the deciding seventh game to beat the Detroit Tigers.  He was named MVP in 1934.  Continue reading

Have You Figured Out Your Future?

So, how are your brackets looking?

You know the one where you predicted Duke and Missouri to be in the Final Four of the NCAA basketball tournament?  Or for Michigan State to win it all?  What happened to your Cinderella teams!  Continue reading

“It’s the Garden of Eden All Over Again”

When you’re in college, Spring Break is the ultimate in week-long partying (for us it was, at least). Those seven days or so are reserved for drinking, sun tanning, dancing, and you know, um, making out. But sometimes, things can get really raunchy — think Girls Gone Wild, but without Joe Francis and his camera crew breathing uncomfortably down your neck. If you wanna hit the hottest parties this coming Spring, you’re going to need to book now — and these four spots are perfect for stripping down, boozing hard, and getting your freak on. Called Into His Wonderful Light

There is a fable about a cave which lived under ground, as caves have a habit of doing.  It had spent its entire life in darkness.  One day it heard a voice calling to it.  “Come up into the light, and see the sunshine.”

The cave retorted, “I don’t know what you mean.  There isn’t anything but darkness.”  Continue reading

Some Things I Can Know

A  train traveling through the night in a very violent rainstorm. The lightning flashes were almost blinding, the rain hitting the windows was deafening and the strong wind gusts rocked the train from side to side. When the lightning flashed and lighted up the darkness, the passengers could see the rising water along the tracks. This created terror in the minds of the passengers. Several passengers noted that through all the noise, lightening and wind, one of the passengers, a little girl, Continue reading

The Storms of Life

I have been watching Fox News on and off all day reporting on the storms tearing across states from the Gulf Coast to Great Lakes. Over 74 storms have been reported.  Powerful tornadoes have ripped roofs off of houses.  Downed trees. Damaged businesses.  Destroyed schools.  The town of “Maryville(Indiana) is completely gone,” said Clark County Sheriff Department Maj. Chuck Adams.  Wiped away by the fierce winds. Henryville, Indiana, suffered extensive damage.  Continue reading

Know Who You Are and Where You’re Going

Wednesday Night Norma and I visited the Henderson Boulevard church here in Tampa. .  I like the fellowship at Henderson and they were having a special series with Paul Sheehan.  The singing was spirited. The fellowship was warm.  And the worship was God centered.  None of this was unexpected.  Nor was the unique style with which Paul presents the Gospel.  I liked his lesson.  A lot. And want to share some of my thoughts from it.  Continue reading

Make Today a Special Day

“I wish I had more time…” We’ve all heard that said.  Right?  Maybe we’ve even said it ourselves! About a project.  A deadline.  Bible reading.  Family activities. Or the work day.  Well, today, your wish comes true!  You have an extra day! Because it’s leap year, there are 29 days in February. Continue reading
