Ingredients for a Tasty Life!

Taste.The.Lord

“100 Places To Eat Before You Die” shouted the internet headline! I like to eat, so I read to see what I had been missing! Fortunately, one is right here in Kansas City, Oklahoma Joe’s. It’s bar-b-que. And it’s really good!

I got to thinking how much focus America puts on food. We love to eat! And we love to eat out.   We love our burgers and fries. Steaks and seafood. And chicken fixed a 100 different ways.    Continue reading

Giving God Pleasure in 2014

GodsPleasureIn twenty days we will turn the page on 2013 to 2014.  You know what that means, don’t you?  New Year’s Resolutions!

Typically resolutions go like this. “In 2014 I resolve to….. go on a diet.  Exercise three times a week.  Pay off my credit cards.  Text less.  Read the Bible daily.  Pray daily.  Be a better Christian.

So how did  that approach work for you  this year?  How many resolutions survived the first month?  Or the first week? Continue reading

How To Make the Most of Your Opportunities

Opportunity.2

A young lady once consulted with her preacher. “I cannot stick it out any longer. I’m the only Christian where I work. I get nothing but taunts and sneers. It’s more than I can stand. I’m quitting.”

” “Will you tell me,” asked the minister, “where lights are placed?”

“What has that to do with it?” she reacted rather bluntly. Continue reading

Wisdom Living

Wisdom

I’m not sure of the accuracy of this story, but Alan Smith in his excellent “Thought for the Day” tells it for the truth!

Mensa is an organization whose members have an IQ of 140 or higher. A few years ago, there was a Mensa convention in San Francisco, and several members lunched at a local cafe. While dining, they discovered that their salt shaker contained pepper and their pepper-shaker was full of salt. How could they swap the contents of the bottles without spilling, and using only the implements at hand? Clearly this was a job for Mensa! The group debated and presented ideas, and finally came up with a brilliant solution involving a napkin, a straw, and an empty saucer. They called the waitress over to dazzle her with their solution. Five Characteristics of Caring Christians

caring

Melvin Newland relates a touching story from the Special Olympics several years ago.  The children were having a great time and competing with tremendous dedication and great enthusiasm.  One event was the 220-yard dash. The contestants came to the starting line and at the signal took off as fast as they could.

One boy by the name of Andrew quickly took the lead.  And soon was about 50 yards ahead of everybody else. As he approached the final turn he looked back and saw that his best friend had fallen and hurt himself on the track. Continue reading

Refreshing Christians

Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus.

Do you know who they are? In what book of the Bible are they mentioned?  Old or New Testament?  You won’t find them in Hebrews 11–The Spiritual “Hall of Fame.”

More than likely they are reserved for the answer to a Bible Trivia game.  They are filed under Miscellaneous.  Unidentified. Or unknown.

Give up?   Continue reading

Holy, Hallowed and Halloween

Hallow.  It isn’t a word commonly used today.  When the model prayer of Jesus is repeated, we say, “Hallowed be Thy name” (Matt. 6:9).  More often the word is identified with the last day of October, in which we in the United States refer to Halloween, which means “all Hallow’s Eve.” Continue reading

Sail On!

Today is Columbus Day. It is a day that Americans celebrate the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus in 1492.  Some say that America was really discovered by Norse Vikings, Irish missionaries or the ten lost tribes of Israel!  But the fact is Columbus was successful in his quest and returned to the old World to spread the good news.  Continue reading
