Two Words That Can Make the World a Better Place

World a better place

Over the past two weeks the two major political parties and their candidates have inundated us with speeches and information on how they, and they alone, can make the country better.  Yes, even great. Again.

Each one believes their platform is positioned to not only improve America in general, but the lives of each of its citizens specifically. And by extension make the world a better place.

I’m afraid if we’re waiting for politicians, government, party platforms, business people or slogans to substantially improve our well-being, we will be waiting a long time.

I recently came across a quote from East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux as he talked about the horrific killing of police officers in Baton Rouge earlier this month.

Remember that? Sadly, there have been so many acts of violence both around the world and in our own country, that we’ve pushed to the back page this terrible attack.

The Challenge of Change

Change. Challenge of

America is changing. And changing at a lightning fast speed. It’s been happening so quickly some of us can hardly keep up.

The current political climate and the two candidates running for President reflect a change in our electorate. Yet, they are the two most disliked to ever win the nomination and run for the highest office in the land.

A decade ago marriage was defined, as it has been for 5,000 years, as a union between one man and one woman. Today that has changed. Continue reading →

It’s Saturday and time for a little humor to end our week.

Did you hear about the children who were lined up in the cafeteria of a “Christian” elementary school for lunch?

At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. Because the children had been taking multiple apples and then wasting them, someone made a note, and posted on the apple tray, “Take only one. God is watching.” Continue reading →

Does God Want America To Be Great Again?

Make America Great Again

Last night closed the Republican National Convention with the acceptance speech of the nominee, Donald Trump, and the traditional balloon drop.  His campaign slogan, Make America Great Again, was the Convention theme.

Like many of my Christian brother and sisters, I’m in a bit of conundrum regarding this election and the decision whether to even vote. I can’t say this week has moved me any closer. And I doubt next week’s Democratic convention will either. Continue reading →

GREAT VERSES OF THE BIBLE: 1Thessalonians 5:11

1Thess.5.11

After the ten-year-old’s first voice lesson, his teacher was adamant: “You can’t sing. You haven’t any voice at all. Your voice sounds like the wind in the shutters.”

Despite this discouragement, the boy’s mother heard greatness in his voice. She believed in him. And encouraged him. “My boy,” she said, “I am going to make every sacrifice to pay for your voice lessons.”

Why Do You Need The Book?

“Are you Running on Spiritual Fumes?” was the title of a post last week. It spoke to the need of engaging in regular Bible study. We suggested that if you are spiritually sputtering through life, you need to refuel with God’s Word, the Bible.

One of my readers responded with this comment. “Religion is poor people’s shield….Weaker people need a book to depend (on). Why (do) you need a book when the Almighty is here with you?
