How Should Christians Respond to the Bathroom Battles?

Bathroom battles

This is a confusing and frustrating time for Christians.

Homosexual relations, same-sex marriage, and transgender rights are more than social or political issues, they speak to Biblical principles. Our moral foundation. And our spiritual values. We have occasionally addressed these issues from the perspective of “What does the Bible say?”

The latest cultural bombshell now involves the use of public restroom facilities. Continue reading

Being Pure in a Profane World

republican-debate-detroit-gop-train-wreck

I didn’t watch last night’s Republican debate. Did I miss anything?

Did Donald Trump insult anyone? Did the other candidates react with similar retorts? Were they still taking about the size of hands and what that possibly meant? Were there any personal attacks?

Actually I did see a CNN headline this morning that read “Republican Debate Turns Dirty.” Continue reading

9 Ways I Define My Identity

KenPic“Nobody can control or define our identities unless we let them, and so I chose to come out and to define myself – nothing more.”

These words are by Bradley Manning, who now identifies himself as female named Chelsea.  Manning is serving 35 years in prison for espionage and has demanded “gender confirming healthcare” from the federal prison system.

Manning’s words express the current social trend toward personal self-expression and identity definition by homosexuals, bisexuals, lesbians, pansexuals, and transgenders

In fact, re-identification knows no boundaries.

Are The Duggars Hypocrites?

Jim Bob Michelle Duggar

Last week I posted this question: “Does Sin Negate the Christian Faith?”

It was in response to the considerable media coverage about the family of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and the revelation that their son, Josh, was guilty of “inappropriate touching” about 12 years ago.

My post was very clear that I was not condoning Josh Duggar’s sinful behavior when he was a teenager. Neither was I attempting to pass judgment on the response of the Duggars, nor to defend them. . My post had one fundamental point: Sin in the life of a Believer does not invalidate the Bible teaching on morality, nullify the Truth, or negate the Christian Faith. Continue reading

Our Mixed Up, Messed Up Culture

Sexual Preference

Mary Gonzalez, a Texas Legislator, is trying to trying to change people’s minds about gender diversity. Mary is a pansexual.

Pansexual? Yes. In 60+ years on earth I’ve never heard of a pansexual. I guess I live too sheltered a life! So, of course, I googled it. Continue reading

Why Paul Circumcised Timothy?

This seems like an unusual topic for a post on ThePreachersWord, doesn’t it?

The reason for addressing it stems from an argument made by one of our readers, Stephen, regarding a post last week. It was based on Paul’s rhetorical question in Galatians 4:16, “Am I Your Enemy, because I tell  you the truth?”

I asked 11 different questions regarding matters of Truth. Two of the questions spoke to the sin of homosexuality.

When I support marriage as being only between one man and one woman, (Matt 19:4-6) am I the enemy of lesbians?

When I affirm that same-sex relations is a sin, (1 Cor. 6:9-11) am I an enemy of homosexuals?

In part, here is Stephen’s response. Continue reading

Does God Ever Give up?

Gods Wrath

Is there ever a time when God looks down on the human race and gives up?

We would think not. God is a God of love. Mercy. Grace. Patience. Longsuffering and Forbearance. Surely, hope springs eternal in the heart of God. He can’t give up! Or can He? Continue reading

HOOSIER HYSTERIA

Religious Freedom

When I was a kid growing up in Indiana the incredible excitement surrounding basketball, especially the High School basketball tournament, was called Hoosier Hysteria.

The passion for the game stemmed in part from the inclusion of all schools in a single class tournament where a smaller rural school might knock off a big city giant. Like Milan did in 1954 when they defeated Muncie Central. Incidently, the movie Hoosiers was based on that game.

However, it seems Hoosier Hysteria has changed. Not just in the game of basketball, but in the passion coming from the state of Indiana. Almost unbelievably the rage is over the “Religious Freedom Bill” signed by Governor Pence and how it might somehow negatively impact homosexuals! Continue reading

“Fight Hate With Love”

MegynKelly Isaac Hill

Last week the national news was dominated by the release of a disgusting video from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon at the University of Oklahoma.

Two fraternity members, Parker Rice and Levi Pettit, have been expelled for their role in leading the racist sing-a-long. The chant included racial slurs of African-Americans, boasting they would never be members of their fraternity. And even included the words “You can hang ‘em from a tree.” Continue reading

Will I Be Put in Prison for Preaching?

Hitching-Post-Idaho-638x425

I’m wondering if the day is going to come in America when I will be arrested and imprisoned for preaching the gospel? Could I be put in jail for not performing a wedding ceremony?  Or could I be fined and even incarcerated  for publishing this blog?

You say, “That could never happen in America!”

Think not? Then consider the recent case of Donald and Evelyn Knapp.  Continue reading
