ThePreachersWord Did Not Cause the Orlando Terrorist Attack

Orlando Shooting

It has now been one week since Muslim extremist, Ormar Mateen, unleashed an assault on the Orlando nightclub , Pulse, billed as “a gay bar and dance club.” 49 men and women were murdered and over 50 injured.

It is well documented that Mateen shouted Allah Akbar” and even called 911 during the shooting to pledge allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

It is also well-known that under Sharia law Muslims go beyond condemning homosexuality. They believe homosexuals must be punished by death. Continue reading

Memorial Day Reflections 2016

Cemetery-flags-800x533

Today is Memorial Day in the United States. It is a national holiday to honor the memory of fallen soldiers.

It is a day to remember those who have given their lives serving in defending our country. It is a day to reflect on the significance of their sacrifice, the courage of their convictions and their commitment to our country. It is a day to be reminded of the grand history of the USA. And it is a day to accord respect to those who have served with honor. Continue reading

Why America Is Heading the Wrong Way?

Wrong Way

Last week both a Real Politics and Ramsmussen Poll showed that most Americans think that our country is on the wrong track. 65% to 68% of the 2500 eligible voters surveyed believe we are heading the wrong way. Accordingly, only 27% felt the country was headed the right direction

However, this is nothing new. I looked back to 2009 and found that over 60% felt the same way then. In fact, one week the poll revealed an 80% dissatisfaction among our populace.

Why are Americans feeling this way? Continue reading

How Should Christians Respond to the Bathroom Battles?

Bathroom battles

This is a confusing and frustrating time for Christians.

Homosexual relations, same-sex marriage, and transgender rights are more than social or political issues, they speak to Biblical principles. Our moral foundation. And our spiritual values. We have occasionally addressed these issues from the perspective of “What does the Bible say?”

The latest cultural bombshell now involves the use of public restroom facilities. Continue reading

What If We Had To Pay “The Alice Tax”?

 Taxes.alice tax

Kansas City native Calvin Trillin is an American author, journalist and humorist. He is a long time food writer for The New Yorker.

In 2012, Trillin was awarded the Thurber Prize for American Humor for Quite Enough of Calvin Trillin: Forty Years of Funny Stuff, published by Random House. He often speaks of his late wife, Alice, who was an accomplished author, educator and “long time muse to her husband.”

In the book, he writes about “the Alice Tax.” Never heard of it? On the eve of our tax deadline in America, consider this. Continue reading

Being Pure in a Profane World

republican-debate-detroit-gop-train-wreck

I didn’t watch last night’s Republican debate. Did I miss anything?

Did Donald Trump insult anyone? Did the other candidates react with similar retorts? Were they still taking about the size of hands and what that possibly meant? Were there any personal attacks?

Actually I did see a CNN headline this morning that read “Republican Debate Turns Dirty.” Continue reading

“Founding Fathers” Under Attack

 Founding Fathers

The city of San Diego has been concerned about their city workers dropping some “F-bombs” on this President’s Day.

Yes, “F-Words” in the form of “Founding Fathers.”

This warning first appeared in a city-issued manual entitled “Bias-Free Language.” According to a report from Fox News and the Pacific Justice Institute, it “instructs workers to eliminate from their vocabulary a number of words and phrases considered gender biased, including “the common man,” “manmade,” “man up” and many others.” Continue reading

7 Things Christians Should Remember In An Election Year

Election 2016

“I’m fed up with politics.” I wearily commented to Norma Jean the other night after being fed more political baloney.

Then what did I do about it?

I tuned in last night to watch the Republican debate. Yes, another one! At one point during an exchange of charges and counter charges over their record and positions on the issues, Norma Jean turned to me and asked, “How do you know who is right!? Continue reading

For Goodness’ Sake or God’s Sake?

SKIP CHURCH. GOODNESS

American Atheists are at it again this Christmas season. As part of their annual tradition the past few years, the Atheists organization has raised eyebrows with their latest holiday-theme billboard.

Picturing a smiling Santa, promising not to tell on you, the message reads: “Go ahead and skip church! Just be good for goodness sake. Happy Holidays!” So far, these billboards have popped up in Colorado, Springs, CO and Raleigh, NC.

“We want people to know that going to church has absolutely nothing to do with being a good person,” said David Silverman, president of American Atheists, in a statement. “The things that are most important during the holiday season—spending time with loved ones, charity and being merry—have nothing to do with religion.” Continue reading
