In 7 days America votes for the next President. Won’t it be wonderful when it’s over?

My feelings are well summarized in a post by blogger Bob Russell last week when he wrote, “Two things continue to disturb me about the current Presidential campaign. First, like most Americans, I am deeply troubled that the two candidates are so terribly flawed. I know there has never been a perfect candidate but this campaign is overstating the case. Why The United States of America Is Not United

Today is a significant day in history.

It was on this day 240 years ago that the Continental Congress formally changed the name of the new nation to be the “United States” of America. This resolution by Richard Henry Lee replaced the term “United Colonies,” which had been in general use, and was so declared on September 9, 1776.

The United States of America speaks to many ideas and ideals. States rights. Independence from tyranny. A Democratic Republic. A more perfect union. Domestic tranquility. The blessings of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Continue reading

Two Words That Can Make the World a Better Place

World a better place

Over the past two weeks the two major political parties and their candidates have inundated us with speeches and information on how they, and they alone, can make the country better.  Yes, even great. Again.

Each one believes their platform is positioned to not only improve America in general, but the lives of each of its citizens specifically. And by extension make the world a better place.

I’m afraid if we’re waiting for politicians, government, party platforms, business people or slogans to substantially improve our well-being, we will be waiting a long time.

Does God Want America To Be Great Again?

Make America Great Again

Last night closed the Republican National Convention with the acceptance speech of the nominee, Donald Trump, and the traditional balloon drop.  His campaign slogan, Make America Great Again, was the Convention theme.

Like many of my Christian brother and sisters, I’m in a bit of conundrum regarding this election and the decision whether to even vote. I can’t say this week has moved me any closer. And I doubt next week’s Democratic convention will either. Continue reading

When Evil Abounds, What Can the Righteous Do?

Yesterday morning after writing and publishing my post, I went outside to get the newspaper–The Dallas Morning News. There it was in bold black letters on the front page. AMBUSH.

Numerous articles described the horrific and chaotic scene Thursday night when a sniper began shooting police officers during a peaceful protest in downtown Dallas.

Turning on the local TV station filled in the up to date details of the heart breaking tragedy that ensued. The attack on the Dallas police is ironic. By all accounts the DPD has been a model to other cities in terms of community relations. Reforms in the past six years of excessive force complaints have dropped from 147 to 13. The murder rate in Dallas is the lowest since 1930. Continue reading

Word of the Week: Liberty

We recognize these words, written by Thomas Jefferson, from the Declaration of Independence, issued 240 years ago today. On America’s birthday we celebrate our freedom and revel in our liberty. We love the feeling of liberty. Continue reading

ThePreachersWord Did Not Cause the Orlando Terrorist Attack

It has now been one week since Muslim extremist, Ormar Mateen, unleashed an assault on the Orlando nightclub , Pulse, billed as “a gay bar and dance club.” 49 men and women were murdered and over 50 injured.

It is well documented that Mateen shouted Allah Akbar” and even called 911 during the shooting to pledge allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

It is also well-known that under Sharia law Muslims go beyond condemning homosexuality. They believe homosexuals must be punished by death. Continue reading

Today is Memorial Day in the United States. It is a national holiday to honor the memory of fallen soldiers.

It is a day to remember those who have given their lives serving in defending our country. It is a day to reflect on the significance of their sacrifice, the courage of their convictions and their commitment to our country. It is a day to be reminded of the grand history of the USA. Why America Is Heading the Wrong Way?

Last week both a Real Politics and Ramsmussen Poll showed that most Americans think that our country is on the wrong track. 65% to 68% of the 2500 eligible voters surveyed believe we are heading the wrong way. Accordingly, only 27% felt the country was headed the right direction

However, this is nothing new. I looked back to 2009 and found that over 60% felt the same way then. In fact, one week the poll revealed an 80% dissatisfaction among our populace.
