7 Reasons Why Christians Should Quit Grumbling About Paying Taxes

It was Benjamin Franklin who is credited with the often repeated quip, “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”

Today is tax day in the United States. Due to the 15th falling on Saturday and Monday being Emancipation Day, the tax deadline was extended until April 18th this year.

According to statistics about 25 percent of Americans wait until the last week to file. Another 17 million will file an extension. And about 99 percent will complain about taxes. Continue reading →

Respecting Authority

 

It doesn’t appear that the vitriol toward our newly elected President is going to disappear anytime soon.

In his latest music video Snoop Dogg literally takes aim at President Trump with a gun pointed at a clown dressed like the President. The rapper listed many of his grievances with the President including his travel ban, “people being in jail for weed” and of course, just winning the Presidency itself. Continue reading →

Today is the inauguration of Donald J. Trump as 45th President of the United States. As a sure sign that I’m getting older, he will he the 13th President to govern since I was born. And 6 of them served 2 terms!

I plan to watch the Inauguration. It’s fascinating to see history unfold before your eyes while sitting the warm confines your home. It’s interesting to hear the opinion of the talking heads and reflect on their commentary. The Paradox of Every Generation

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times” so begins Charles Dickens historical novel A Tale of Two Cities. In fact, on this day in 1859 the final chapter was published in Dickens’ circular, “All the Year Round.”

Love Trumps Hate

Pumping their fists in the air and marching through the streets, hundreds of people  in cities all across the country from Los Angeles to New York, have been heard chanting “Love Trumps Hate.”

5 Ways To Cope With Election Anxiety

Now there’s another disorder. Election stress disorder. Dr. Asim Shah, vice chair for community psychiatry at Baylor College of medicine in Houston, says it’s real.

Apparently Shah is right. A quick Google search of “election stress disorder” revealed 1,540,000 hits.

Shah said that symptoms of this once-every-four-years disorder include heart palpitations, shortness of breath, sweaty palms, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping and a sinking or doomed feeling.

According to recent news reports The American Psychological Association says the election is the source of “a significant amount of stress for more than half of all Americans and is prevalent in both parties.” Continue reading →
