Yesterday was veterans day. It is day to honor those who have served in our military. Both living and dead. To thank them for their service. To celebrate their contribution. To remember their sacrifice. Continue reading

POST ELECTION THOUGHTS: It’s Not About Red States or Blue States
(We are continuing to reblog the top posts of 2012 during the holiday break. This one ranked #4. As someone who is growing weary of the constant political bickering, the challenge issued here is a good reminder. Share this post with your friends)
Tuesday night I was excited to watch the election returns. I tuned-in early to hear the optimistic predictions. I was feeling confident that real change was coming. Perhaps I’ve been in denial. Drinking the “kool aid” that has been in abundant supply. In my stricken state of mind I even filled out a prediction map calling for a big upset victory! Even when things were not looking so good, I was convinced the Karl Rove was right! All would end well. Continue reading

Will God Bless America?
“God bless you.” “And God bless America.” How many times did we hear some version of “God bless” during the past two weeks of the Republican and Democratic National conventions? Almost every speaker invoked God’s blessing once or twice at the end of every speech.
But I was struck by the irony of asking for God to bless America all the while advocating moral positions that are contrary to the will of God. Abortion. Homosexuality. Same-Sex marriage. So as I thought about all the request for God to bless America, I wondered…..will He? Continue reading
What Can the Righteous Do?
As work continues on the 1776 foot Freedom Tower scheduled for completion in 2013, I was reading that the foundation is 70 feet deep. We understand the importance of a solid foundation in building a structure of this size. Sadly, our country has forgotten the importance of a solid spiritual foundation. Continue reading
President Obama Supports Same Sex Marriage
My blog on Tuesday, “Is Morality Evolving,” is already partially outdated. (If you haven’t seen it, read it first. https://thepreachersword.com/2012/05/08/is-morality-evolving/)
I stated what President Obama has repeatedly said over the past three years that his view of same-sex marriage is “evolving.” On Wednesday his evolution was fully completed. The President has “come out” and said that he now favors same-sex marriage. In a quickly called news conference the President said, “At a certain point, I’ve just concluded that for me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.” Continue reading
Who Are You Praying For Today?
Did you hear about the mother and her five-year old son, Kevin, who were going to McDonald’s for lunch. As they approached the fast food restaurant, there was a serious accident involving several cars. Wishing to teach her son a lesson about compassion for those who may be injured, and the importance of prayer, she said, “We should pray.”
From the back seat she heard Kevin fervently Continue reading
President’s Day Reflections: What Substitute for a Religious Society?
This from CNSNews.com as I write my blog on this President’s day, February 20, 2012
Shaun Casey, the religious affairs adviser to presidential candidate Barack Obama in 2008, said at a discussion on Tuesday about “God and Politics” that the demise of religious society in the United States is a good thing.
“I, frankly, am glad American civil religion is dying,” said Casey, who is an associate professor of Christian Ethics at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. Continue reading
