Psalm 40

An old Bits and Pieces magazine tells the story about an Ozark hound dog sitting in a country store howling as hounds do.

In comes a stranger and says to the storekeeper, “What’s the matter with the dog?”

“He’s sittin’ on a cocklebur.”

“Why doesn’t he get off it?” Continue reading

Twisting Truth into a Lie

Reuters is reporting this morning that California has threaten to cut business ties with the pharmacy chain Walgreens.

In a tweet on Monday, Governor Gavin Newsom said that the state would refuse to do business with “any company that cowers to the extremists and puts women’s lives at risk,” including Walgreens.

One reason is that the sound increases during commercials, which my wife, Norma Jean. finds irritating. She says I have the TV too loud anyway. Huh?

Also some commercials are repeated so many times that we grow weary of hearing them. Others we just find silly or trite. Anyway the mute button gives us a 3-4 minute respite.

Yesterday, however, a commercial appeared that I hadn’t seen before. It was by Bank OZK, headquartered in Little Rock, with several branches in the Tampa Bay area, plus on line banking. Continue reading

Hebrews 11:4

In one of his sermons W. A. Criswell told a story about the president of a great railway system who died.

“The funeral service was held at two o’clock on a weekday afternoon. At that exact moment, every train came to a dead stop. Every wheel ceased to turn. Every workman dropped his tools. Every clerk turned from his files. For three minutes, the entire vast railway system came to a complete stop.” Continue reading
