Sunday Seed Thoughts: What is Faith?

This is too good not to share. In studying for my sermon this morning I came across this quote by the 19th-century Scottish minister, Alexander Maclaren.

“Faith is the sight of the inward eye.”

It fits with my text in Hebrews 11:1.  “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

Then I came across these words in some notes from several years ago.  I’m not sure if I wrote this or found it in a book and failed to notate the author.  Either way, I like it.  And I hope you do too.

Faith is believing when I don’t see it.

Faith is obeying when I don’t understand it.

Faith is giving when I don’t have it.

Faith is persisting when I don’t feel like it.

Faith is  thanking before I receive it.

Faith is trusting if I don’t get it.

Have a great Lord’s Day everyone.  And always “Have faith in God” (Mk. 11:22)
