4 Ways to Deal with Doubt

 doubtvsfaith

Last week’s post, Don’t Let Doubt Sink Your Faith, prompted these 3 honest and sincere questions from a reader.

1) Are you saying that one can’t doubt their faith?

2) Are you saying that if we doubt that God won’t love someone who does?

3) Are you saying that if we doubt we are not people of faith? Continue reading

4 Lessons Learned from the Titanic

1932 --- Sinking of the Titanic by Willy Stoewer --- Image by © Bettmann/CORBIS

“God himself could not sink this ship,” replied a deck hand as Sylvia Caldwell marveled at the majesty of the great Titanic and wondered aloud if it really was unsinkable as advertised.

Talk about famous last words!

It was on this day 104 years ago, April 15, 1912, that the “Unsinkable Ship” sank in the icy waters of the North Atlantic after hitting an iceberg late on the 14th.  1517 people died in that disaster. Continue reading

Confidence in the Outcome

Last night I watched the Indiana-Purdue basketball game. It is one of the most intense and heated rivalries in college basketball.

They have played 203 times since 1901. The rivalry even has its own Wikepedia page describing notable disputes, technical fouls, ejection of coaches, overtime games and of course, the famous Bob Knight chair-throwing incident that happened 31 years ago today.

Last night I watched the #22 ranked Hoosiers match up with the #17 ranked Boilermakers with complete confidence that Indiana would win the game. Continue reading

GREAT VERSES OF THE BIBLE: Hebrews 11:1

Hebrews11.1

Everyone has faith. Faith in something. Or faith in someone. A Houston preacher, John Bisagno, put it this way:

“Faith is the heart of life. You go to a doctor whose name you can’t pronounce. He gives you a prescription you cannot read. You take it to a pharmacist you have never seen. He gives you medication you do not understand — and yet, you take it.” Continue reading

Facing Life With Faith

Faith.GotFaith

Contemporary author Eugene Peterson once wrote, “Christian faith is not neurotic dependence, but childlike trust.  We do not have a God who forever indulges our whims but a God in whom we trust with our destinies.”

Our confidence in God provides peace of mind, purpose in life, and hope for the future.  As Corrie Ten Boom put it, “Faith is like a radar that sees through the fog of reality of things at a distance that the human eye cannot see.  Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible.” Continue reading

Word of the Week: Faith

Faith.Word

One night a family’s house caught fire and they were forced to run outside. However, the fire blocked their path to the upstairs bedroom where their son was sleeping. The father yelled for the son to open his bedroom window.

On the ground below the boy’s father he knew his son had to jump to save his life. “Jump!” hollered the frantic father, “Jump, I’ll catch you!”

All the frightened little fellow could see, however, was smoke, flames and the darkness of the night. He was scared to jump. Continue reading
