When the late Dr. Hugh Moorhead was a philosophy grad student at the University of Chicago, he began asking some of the great thinkers of the 20th century “What is the meaning or purpose of life?”

Over the years he sent letters to over 250 renowned scientists, philosophers, authors, and intellectuals. Later, while chairman of the philosophy department at Northeastern Illinois University, Moorhead published the responses and his conclusions. Continue reading

Psalm 8

The 17th century German astronomer, Johannes Kepler, was said to be a deeply religious man who was a Creationist.

The story’s told, though it may be apocryphal, that Kepler was troubled by a friend who denied God’s existence. In order to convince him, Kepler constructed a model of the universe with the sun and the planets revolving around it.

When the friend visited his Observatory one day and saw the model, he exclaimed, “How beautiful it is! Who made it?” Continue reading

Some Light-hearted Thoughts On Getting Older

KenBdayWell, here it is again.  My birthday!  When you’re a kid they can’t come quickly enough.  When you get to my, uh, well, a certain age, they seem to come too quickly!

Some of my favorite stories and quips come to mind this morning.
