Can You Regulate Morality?

Morality.RegulateThe precious little children of the Newtown massacre have not even been buried yet and we are hearing about more laws and regulations so “this kind of thing never happens again.”

But can you regulate morality?  Can more laws regulate the evil in a person’s heart?  Can stricter gun laws diminish hate?  Reverse revenge?  Dispel anger?   Continue reading

DrinkingA few years ago Toby Keith had a hit song entitled “Let’s Get Drunk and Be Somebody.”  It was a jukebox favorite.  He sang about everyday folks that he called “nobodies” who became “somebody” on the weekend when they got drunk!  Really? Continue reading

“King David:” The Downfall of a Hero

He was called “King David” by the troops.  He had position. Power. Prestige.  He was hailed as a hero.  Loved by his countrymen.  Feared by His enemies.  And jeered by his critics.  His life had been a series of successes from his youth.  And now the revelation of an illicit relationship has brought him to the lowest point in his life.

No, I’m not talking about King David in the Bible, but General David Petraeus. Continue reading

President Obama Supports Same Sex Marriage

My blog on Tuesday, “Is Morality Evolving,” is already partially outdated. (If you haven’t seen it, read it first. https://thepreachersword.com/2012/05/08/is-morality-evolving/)

I stated what President Obama has repeatedly said over the past three years that his view of same-sex marriage is “evolving.” On Wednesday his evolution was fully completed. The President has “come out” and said that he now favors same-sex marriage. In a quickly called news conference the President said, “At a certain point, I’ve just concluded that for me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.” Continue reading

Is Morality Evolving?

(During the Christmas break, we are rebloging the top 5 posts of 2012 based on the number of “hits” by our readers.  This one was tied for #5.  Thanks for reading ThePreachersWord and sharing with others)
“I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women and heterosexual men and women marrying are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties,” said Vice President, Joe Biden, on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” He  went on to say the situation is “evolving” and that the “social culture” is changing.

On Monday, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, when asked if he thinks gay couples should be able to legally marry, said, “Yes, I do.”

And our President has been on record for some time saying that his views of same-sex marriage are “evolving.” Continue reading

Sex. Society. And the Secret Service.

“Prostitution scandal ricochets through Washington”

This was Tuesday’s headline from many newspapers and internet news sources.

By now, I’m sure you’ve read or heard about the eleven Secret Service agents and ten military personnel who were sent to Cartagena, Columbia, to protect the President and were caught with twenty-one women in their hotel. Continue reading

“It’s the Garden of Eden All Over Again”

When you’re in college, Spring Break is the ultimate in week-long partying (for us it was, at least). Those seven days or so are reserved for drinking, sun tanning, dancing, and you know, um, making out. But sometimes, things can get really raunchy — think Girls Gone Wild, but without Joe Francis and his camera crew breathing uncomfortably down your neck. If you wanna hit the hottest parties this coming Spring, you’re going to need to book now — and these four spots are perfect for stripping down, boozing hard, and getting your freak on.
