“Cherry-Picking” The Scripture

Cherry Picking

I have a regular reader, Stephen, who often comments on our posts. Not always, but many of his comments and disagreements address my stance on same-sex marriage.

I’m not singling out Stephen. His responses are publicly posted on this site. He has been kind, considerate, and often complimentary. For the benefit of all readers, I want to answer some of his questions.

“Could you talk about “cherry picking” Scripture?” Stephen asked. Continue reading

Presbyterians Push to Redefine Marriage

Presbyterian Leaders

According to the Christian Post , March 9, 2015, “The largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States is only seven votes away from having enough regional bodies favor changing its official definition of marriage to include homosexual unions.”

“At last year’s general assembly, Presbyterian Church (USA) approved an amendment changing their Book of Order’s definition of marriage from being between ‘a man and a woman’ to ‘two people’, traditionally a man and a woman.” Continue reading

CityBacksOff

In a recent post, “Will I Be Put in Prison for Preaching?” I related the story of Donald and Evelyn Knapp who were threatened with fines and imprisonment for refusing to perform same sex marriages.

Yesterday, The Alliance for Defending Freedom, who was legally representing the Knapps posted this update to their blog that I’m reposting in its entirety.

To be clear, our concern is not so much political or social, but religious and spiritual. Continue reading

Will I Be Put in Prison for Preaching?

Hitching-Post-Idaho-638x425

I’m wondering if the day is going to come in America when I will be arrested and imprisoned for preaching the gospel? Could I be put in jail for not performing a wedding ceremony?  Or could I be fined and even incarcerated  for publishing this blog?

You say, “That could never happen in America!”

Think not? Then consider the recent case of Donald and Evelyn Knapp.  Continue reading

What is a Preacher’s Responsibility?

Preaching2

I thought this was a piece of satire when I first read it. But it’s true!

The Houston Chronicle reported that Houston Mayor Annise Parker signed off on subpoenas issued to five local preachers.

And what did the city and the Mayor want from the preachers? Continue reading

Why I Haven’t Changed My Mind on Homosexuality

Romans1

“I recently became gay affirming after a 15-year journey,” said Danny Cortez, a preacher for the New Heart Community Church in La Mirada, California.

In a letter to blogger John Shore, founder of “Unfundamentalist Christians,” Cortez said he “realized I no longer believed in the traditional teachings regarding homosexuality.” The Baptist trained preacher said after reading many of Shore’s posts his “eyes became open to the injustice that the church had wrought.” Continue reading

How Does The Second Great Commandment Apply to Treatment of Homosexuals?

LoveNeighbor

“How do we hold to “both” values that homosexuality is a sin but that gays shouldn’t be discriminated against? — or in Africa, killed”

This question was one of several that I began answering yesterday raised by one of my regular readers. It was in response to a post last week “What is Truth?”

The same reader previously asked a very probing and important question regarding the Christian’s attitude and treatment of homosexuals.  Continue reading

Gene Robinson Divorces “Husband”

Robinson.HomosexualMarriage

Gene Robinson, the Episcopal bishop whose open and brazenly homosexual lifestyle ripped apart his denomination, announced that he is divorcing his male partner of 25 years.

Robinson made national news when he was elected as the first openly homosexual bishop of the Episcopal church in 2003. In protest, Conservative Episcopalians quit the church and formed the Anglican church in North America.  Continue reading

Michael Sam, Christians and a Homosexual-Driven Culture

Michael.Sam

“Because I teach ethics and theology, I have read a great many things about homosexuality. For that matter, anyone who reads newspapers or watches TV gets lots of information on the subject these days. Most of it is agenda-driven,” wrote Rubel Shelly, in his weekly Fax of Life. Continue reading
