Presbyterians Push to Redefine Marriage

Presbyterian Leaders

According to the Christian Post , March 9, 2015, “The largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States is only seven votes away from having enough regional bodies favor changing its official definition of marriage to include homosexual unions.”

“At last year’s general assembly, Presbyterian Church (USA) approved an amendment changing their Book of Order’s definition of marriage from being between ‘a man and a woman’ to ‘two people’, traditionally a man and a woman.”

Delegates recently met in Chattanooga where the proposal was debated. One proponent, Kally Elliott, University of Tennessee campus minister said, “We have a lot of students who come into our campus ministry with their story being one of hurt and shame given to them by the church.”

“Our goal is to share with them the love of Jesus Christ ” explained Elliott, “and to let them know that they are fully loved, fully welcomed as they are, who they are.”

Apparently Elliott has not only overlooked the Bible passages condemning homosexuality, but the ones where sinners are called to repent! (Lk. 13:3; Acts 2:38). Coming to Christ calls for a change of heart and life. It requires a renunciation of our past life. And results in a new creature created in Christ Jesus in holiness and righteousness (Eph 4:24; 2 Cor 5:17)

In an earlier interview with the Post “Carmen Fowler LaBerge, president of the Presbyterian Lay Committee, a theologically conservative group, called the likely passage of Amendment 14-F “tragic, but not surprising.’”

“The Presbyterian Church (USA) has been actively undermining her own theological foundations for generations,” said LaBerge. This vote is simply the result of a hundred years of progressive deviation from the Truth,”

“As more and more Presbyterians in the pews wake up to the reality that their denomination has abandoned the Bible in exchange for the accommodation of sexual immorality, many of them will leave,” predicted LaBerge.

Sadly the Presbyterian Church is following the political correctness of our corrupt culture rather than the Bible.

Jesus was clear on the topic in Matthew 19:4-6.

“Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Marriage is between one man and one woman. Period! Any other redefinition is a violation of God’s Word.

However, if we are going to disregard Jesus’ teaching on marriage, then why limit the union to only two people? Why not allow Mormons to engage in Polygamy like their leader Brigham Young who had 55 wives? What’s wrong with that?

Why stop with homosexuals? Maybe we should redefine marriage to include bisexuals? Aren’t they being discriminated against? Why not allow a community of people who choose to cohabit to be married? How about two men and two women? Or three and five? Or six and nine?

The same Bible that teaches adultery and fornication are wrong, says homosexuality is sinful. Romans chapter one clearly condemns homosexuality.

In this text same-sex relations are called “sinful desires.” “Sexual impurity.” “Unnatural.” “Indecent acts.” “Perversion.” And those who engage in them have rejected “the knowledge of God” and are acting with a “depraved mind.” (Romans 1:18-28)

Now before I’m called a “homophobe” or accused of being “a hater,” remember these are the words of the apostle Paul, who received this revelation from the Holy Spirit, sent by Jesus, who came to reveal the will of the Father!

Sadly, more churches will probably follow the erroneous example of the Presbyterian Church (USA). However, all the councils, edicts, synods, and votes by men will not change the infallible Truth.

God created marriage. Ordained marriage. Defined marriage. Marriage is between one man and one woman. Amen?

Man’s desire to change God’s word doesn’t change God’s mind. We will be judged by the Lord’s word Jn.12:48; Rev.20:11-5, not the creeds of men. Thanks for the article.
