Making the Case for Being Trans

While there may be much to be said that is negative about social media, there are also many positive posts.  On Facebook Friday we share something each week that catches our attention.  It may be funny. Insightful. Informative.  Or instructive.  Sometimes we use it as a springboard to comment. Other times, we publish without additional comments.

Today’s post is from the page of  F. LaGard Smith.  He offers an interesting and unexpected twist on being Trans.  Don’t give up on the article. Read it to the end. Continue reading

The Journey Is Too Short

Last week my facebook friend, Chris Murray, wife of Charles Murray, who preaches at the Skyview Church in Pinellas Park, posted a piece that caught my attention.

She talked about the problem of grumpy people who gripe about anybody and everything. As Chris wrote, “On a daily basis we encounter people in the grocery store, on the street, in our cars, on the phone and sometimes even at home or in worship service who fall into the category of unhappy people.” Continue reading

Whipping Worry With Good News

“Learn more; worry less,” advised Jim Rohn on a facebook post. Then he offered this insight by Paul J. Meyer, “More damage is done by worrying than by what is being worried about. This is because over 90% of all worries never come to pass.”

So, how do you whip worry? Continue reading

Personal Work in Marriage

“Each person in a marriage has work to do on themselves,” observed Family and Marriage Counselor, Julie Adams. “I’ve not seen a couple yet where ‘all the fault’ completely falls on one person.”

Julie’s not only a facebook friend, but a friend in real life. She recently posted a short, but powerful piece regarding our individual responsibility in marriage.

Do You Talk To Other Drivers?

My friend, fellow Hoosier, and preaching colleague, Max Dawson, is a “car guy” So, he publishes a Monday Column headed “Pontiacs, Points, and Proverbs.” It’s a very clever “weekly blog about cars, morality, and spiritual truth.”

In an April post on facebook, he asked the question, “Do you talk to other drivers?” I do. Much to my wife’s dismay. So does Max. You’ll enjoy the story he tells and appreciate the spiritual application. Continue reading

Additionally, he posts some short pieces called “Minute Moments.” Most can be read in less than a minute.

Today’s facebook Friday features three from his page. Continue reading

How To Differ Constructively

My friend and preaching colleague, Steve Wolfgang, recently posted a 1974 article by the late Robert Turner from his Plain Talk paper. It’s definitely worthy of wide circulation.

Read. Profit. Apply. And share. Continue reading

Humor Found on Facebook

With all the evil abounding in the world, and too much negativity posted on social media, we thought a little humor on facebook Friday was in order.

Today’s post is a collection of captions, quotes and memes from various sources.

We begin with a question Wilson Adams asked in the prelude to a serious post.

How many therapists does it take to change a lightbulb? Continue reading

Happiness. Anger. And Social Media.

Some time ago, Doy Moyer, preacher and professor at Florida College, posted a piece about happiness as it relates to some of the ranting we witness on social media.

“There is a universal desire for happiness, but since happiness is so elusive, people have instead embraced anger and have given in to the hopelessness and bitterness that come with it.” Continue reading

Our God Is An Awesome God

“One of my pet peeves is today’s casual use of the word ‘awesome.’ Many things are called awesome that are not at all awesome but very ordinary,” posted my facebook friend Michael D. Greene.  “Awesome should be reserved for things that truly inspire or move us to awe.”

I share in Michael’s feelings about the word “Awesome.”  To illustrates what is truly awe inspiring Michael shared a piece from his friend John Gott, who works in the field of science, that ought to inspire us to awe as it deals with the awesome power of the God we serve. Continue reading
